Others are improved by the addition of new styles, ideas, and habits. In our school life, as well as in our community, traditions tend to grow, and progress is marked by invention and discovery. Here at Ouachita we value our reputation for thorough scholastic training and good sportsmanship. Such activities as the choir's caroling in the halls at Christmastime, Monday after- noon faculty meetings, and the annual senior assembly have become traditions. A student council, a Guidance Department, distributive education, and plans for a remodeled building are but a few signs of progress at O. P. H. S. We treasure the educational, religious, cultural, and civic traditions of our community, yet we welcome the advancements of this progressive era. One of the newest steps forward here in Monroe is television, which provides not only entertainment but educational advantages as well. Since various school organizations have participated on programs, TV has become a community center for the school's extracurricular activities. y In an effort to present a complete picture of our school activities, both the old and the new, the staff proudly presents the 1954 Roarer. Page 4 able of contents U5 iv Q O X clication In appreciation of her tireless efforts to promote an outstand- ing athletic program at Ouachita, her enthusiastic support of all school activities designed to develop well-rounded students, and her unswerving loyalty to the school, the Senior Class gratefully dedicates the 1954 Roarer to Mrs. Elizabeth Manhein. Page 6 chocl oarcl The Ouachita Parish School Board, under the supervision of Superintendent W. W. Ward, has made Ouachita Parish one of the most advanced centers of education in Louisiana. Some results of their constant efforts for improvement are a new parish high school, in use this year for the first time, new and improved elementary school buildings, and plans for remodeling our own high school building. I' I n C I P G The Roarer is composed of representative selections from the school life and activities of Ouachita Parish High School. It is neither all in- clusive nor exclusive. By pictures and brief words the Roarer staff has recorded a great number of interesting and significant activities of the current school year. Anyone viewing the Roarer for this year, or any year, must be im- pressed with the fact that our school is truly a live, vigorous, and purposeful institution which is inspiring and serving an outstanding student body. The members of the staff of the Roarer have been keenly alert and constant in their efforts to collect and record for all of us the many interesting and challenging events included in this annual. They have given to students and faculty a collection of pleasant and inspiring memories for future years. I take this means of offering to our Roarer Staff congratulations and many thanks for this outstanding contribution to our school. I. C. STRICKLAND The Principal lk! Ida!!
