The-91952 As the Lion Cagers closed the 1951-52 season, the records show that they had completed one of the best seasons in recent years. Under Coach H. H. Holliman, assisted by Lake Oxford, the Lions were winners in 20 of the 27 games played. This year for the first time all North Louisiana AA teams were organized into a conference with the two top teams qualifying for the state tournament. Ouachita made a G won, 2 lost record to tie the Fair Park Indians for the championship of North Louisiana. The Lions fielded a well balanced team with Harold Davis, lfValter Bennett, and Edward Maroney working on the outside. Under the goals were Johnny Grantham and Gene Greer pulling in the rebounds for the Ouachita team. Although the team qualified for the state tournament held in Natchitoches on March 7 and 8, they were eliminated in the first round of state play by the Bolton Bears, GG-45. t Left to right: XfVilliam BOHIICT, Bill Shephard. The Lionesses turned on the power in the State Tournament at Natchitoches to emerge undefeated and cop the state crown. Under the direction ol' Miss Mary Lea George, assisted by Mrs. Natalie May, the girls showed consistent improvement throughout the year. Evidence of this was the fact that they were winners in six of their last seven games before going to state play. Standouts at forwards were Brunson, Donald, and Dumas, while Hill, Phillip, and Brown did a creditable job in guarding the opponents. The girls ended the season with a 15 won, 7 lost record. More honors came to the team as three mem- bers ol the squad placed on the All State Team. Those making the team were Hill and Phillips at guard, and Dumas at forward.
