Its waters are no longer disturbed by great steamboats plying their way to New Orleansg now only pleasure craft and seaplanes skim lightly along its broad surface. VVhat stories it could tell of our Alma Mater! The river has seen our school grow from its small beginning in 1894 to its present status as largest high school in the state. The staff lovingly presents the Along the Ouachita edition, hoping that in years to come you may find in it a reminder of every phase of your school life for the year 1950-51. For the past two years The Ouachita Lion has won the International Honor Award, highest possible rating in the Quill and Scroll Critical Ser- vice. During these years the Lion, with Miss Mabel Lann as sponsor, has been a project of the English De- partment. This year for the first time in the history of our school, the Lion has been published by a journalism de- partment, headed by Mrs. James I-Iornbeak, a newcomer to our faculty. The editors, feature writers, and re- porters are all members of the Senior Class, and most of them have had two or three years experience in school pa- per work. They have all worked to- gether to bring the students a paper representative of our school life. Page 81 UACHIT CHOIR The Ouachita Parish High School Choir has been under the direction of Miss Ramona Cormier for the past two years. Besides performing in the annual Christmas and spring concerts, this group is often heard at local churches and civic organizations. Last year the choir, with their director and several chaper- ones, made a six-day tour of the state. In some of the cities the members ena joyed the hospitality of the townspeople, who readily took them into their homes. They visited many historic spots, performing for varied audiences, and a grand time was had by all. This year has been highlighted by several excursion trips to neighboring towns where the choir has presented a full concert. The choir, having received a superior rating at state festival for a number of years, performed for the entire district at Ruston this year. It has been in constant demand for civic club performances, banquet programs, educational programs, music for style reviews, and even kiddie show performances. This group has immensely enjoyed its visits to St. Josephs Home for the Aged, and it claims these lovable oldsters as one of its very best audiences. Both of the ensembles have performed singularly and as a combined group at every choir concert and for many of the above programs . Seated. left to right: joan Hlood, Ouida Greer. These boys have performed for minstrel programs, civic programs, banquets, and have joined the girls' ensemble lor the greater part of their year's performances as a mixed ensemble. No more versatile group can be found. They sing their prepared program, and, then, on some occasions, sing request numbers. Sponsored by the Monroe Kiwanis Club, the Key Club holds as its primary objective the development of such quali- ties in boys as leadership, scholarship, and character. This is brought about by coordinating their efforts in rendering service to the school and community through a medium of service projects. Highlighting this year's many achievements were the Key Club Minstrel, faculty-student basketball game, establishment of an athletic Hall of Fame, re- nuinbering of all classrooms, poll for the Lion, Parent-Sons Banquet, ushering at all home football games, and taking the 'B' League City Championship in basketball.
