Social Studies Teaches To The goals of the Ottumwa High School Social Studies Department are to help students learn to change, learn to interact with their surrounding environment, and learn that education, at its best, is ecstatic. In order that the department might meet these three goals listed, they have been doing some new and creative things in the classroom during 1976-77. Some of these new ideas include self-concept examinations, a series of new simulation games, one-on-one teaching strategies, small group work, working with the elderly, and studying the age-old concepts of death and dying. The Social Studies Department offers approximately sixteen different courses for students. All students are encouraged to look over these offerings for those that will benefit them the most.
