In restless dreams I walk alone, Narrow streets of cobblestone, 'Neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp, When my eyes were stabbed By the flash of a neon light, split the night, And touched the sounds of silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more, People talking without speakingg People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never share, And no one dare, disturb the sounds of silence. Foolsi said I You don't know, Silence like a cancer grows. Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you. But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence. And the people bowed and prayed, To the neon god they made. And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said the words of the prophet Are written on the subway walls and tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence. As seniors, you have served well in the role of providing academic and extracurricular leadership as has been the senior tradition in the Ottoville School District. I am confident that, as adult citizens, you will continue to provide this same positive direction and service. Our nation needs more students with the qualities you have demon- strated by your achievement as individuals and as a class. The challenge before each of you is to continue to strive to be the best as you leave high school and follow life's separate but common duties. If you meet this challenge as adu.lts in a manner similar to the way you met it as students, you will contribute to better the community, the school system, and the nation. ,Jaff- Robert A, Bruns Local Superintendent U Yr 1' ii In these restless, chaotic years the most priceless possession an individual can own is a strong sense of purpose and direction. Both are related to character. Without character there can be no purpose: without purpose, no direction. Character is the result of the influences which surround a person. Influences are many and varied. They come from the church, from the home, from friends and acquaintances, and from the school. It is our hope at Ottoville that the influence extended by the school has been effective. lt is our hope that the extracurricular as well as the curricular activities have helped mold, and will continue to help mold, and determine future character. Coach of the Year The big question life asks of everyone of us is: Are you a holdout or allout? And the allouts pick up the prizes. Remember those thrilling victories over Miller City and St. John this year. Yet, basketball is like life - you win some and you lose some. I would like to thank the team in general, and the co-captains, Mike Gasser and Mike Leis, in particular for their willingness to work with total abandon in order to be a winner this year and not a rebuilder the season to come. Team and fans, Ihope you enjoyed every moment of this year's Big Green basketball. l r ASS'T. COACH - Stanley Wise ' HEAD COACH - Richard L. Kortokrax Richard L.
