This grade school accommodated grades 1-8 and was housed in two separate buildings. After completing the eighth grade, a student had to choose between a high school in Bradford or Eldred. Many simply dropped out. To solve their problem, school board members began to look at many schools. They decided to model the school after one in Randolph, New York. This was when Raymond Freburg, the architect, came into the picture. With the plans finished, actual construction of the Otto Township High School began. The original part of the building was constructed in 1932-33 by Yenther Brothers Contractors. Due to the wealth of the nearby oil fields, the auditorium was graced with chandeliers and red velvet seats. Because the gymnasium was not yet completed,! basketball games wereplayM the Mage. Along with the new addition erected in 1935, the gymnasium was completed. Mary Wasson Curtis and her sister, Margaret Ann, were given the honor of setting the cornerstone on July 1, 1935, because their father, C. W. Wasson, was vice president of the school board. Mary Wasson now resides in her girlhood home on Kansas Branch. pic ICU , m Although the school has gone through many physical alterations, the good times and special memories that all O-E students have shared over the years will never change. — Tracie Aldrich and Marsha Ducey GLOVER EDITOR-IN-CHIEF CLASS OF ’88 The members of the Class of '88 express their appreciation, thanks, and love to their class advisor, Mrs. Mary Beth Glover. In addition to being our class advisor, Mrs. Glover was a special friend during our junior and senior years. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and her leadership brought out the best in every one of us. She will always be a friend long after our graduation when each member of our class has gone in his own direction. Through all her time, effort, and support, we were able to break the school record for magazine sales, have an outstanding prom, and then go on to set another new school record in our Christmas sale. Mrs. Glover, you are the greatest! Thank you for everything!! 2 FEATURE FOCUS SECTION A CLASS OF '88 OFFICERS : Secretary Jami McClelland, Treasurer Kim Regis, Vice President Chris Emery, President Ronda Reed, Advisor Mrs. M. Glover The Class of '88 finally became seniors! Along with the title of “seniors,” we were also given many responsibilities. They included setting an example for the underclassmen and upholding our standards, which we accepted and achieved with maximum success. During our years at O-E, our class was noted for several stupendous accomplishments. In our junior year, we had the most terrifying haunted house O-E has ever seen at a Novemberfest. Our class was instrumental in establishing a SADD Chapter. We also broke all school records by selling over $36,000 worth of magazines and Christmas items. But our most outstanding accomplishment was our Junior-Senior Prom, The City of Lights.” This was truly a class act. The entrance was a walk-through Arch de Triumph, and the band played in the garden courtyard in front of the Chateau. We can’t forget our glistening waterfall or the sidewalk cafe which provided a cozy French atmosphere for the people to sit and visit. The center of attraction, which lives on in Walkertown, was a lighted, twenty-foot walk-through Eiffel Tower. We wowed all who attended. It was a huge success because every member of our class worked extremely well together. In another respect, newspaper articles and scores do not always reflect the spirit and Terror Pride” that we all possess. Pulling together when we needed to, proved we had these qualities within us even under the worst circumstances. Like our motto says, Today's beautiful moments are Tomorrow’s beautiful memories,” we will always remember our years at O-E because much has happened that we will treasure in the years to come. The Class of 1988 is truly a class with CLASS!! 3 MOTTO: Today’s beautiful moments Thomas E. Anderson Deborah Christine Batt Shelly Rena Baker Susan P. Baker Richard D. Beckham Charlie W. REGIS As a teacher for 29 years, Mrs. Regis has influenced many students, past and present, with her charisma, kindness, and dedication. Her Office Practice Class makes their secretarial service available to our school and to the public by creating tickets, programs, and newsletters. No matter what it is, Mrs. Regis is always there to lend a helping hand or give some friendly advice. Many plays will be remembered as having her as the director or as a delightful character on stage. In addition, she helps organize the senior Christmas sale each year. On numerous occasions, she has indicated that she does all this because she wants to. There is a business-like atmosphere instilled in her classes by this very confident, competent, and enthusiastic teacher. Getting and keeping a good job or going on to school are goals Mrs. Regis tries to set for her students. Many hold good positions because she was willing to seek out the best up-to-date equipment on which they could learn their skills. It has been said by fellow teachers and students that she is willing to do anything for anybody if she is asked in the right way. Also, it has been said that many people would not be where they are today without her business” guidance and help. Along with being the Business Dept. Head for many years, she has held advisor positions with OTTOCRAT Business and Otto Horn staffs. Eley. Banners, balloons, and new shirts were presented by the Varsity O-E Club to this cross country twosome. Both young people worked very hard toward the honor of participating at the state meet, and we all are proud to have had Renee and Scott represent O-E. Their dedication to the sport paid off as they took their talents to the limit to try to improve personal records. They were challenged to do their best and “Go For The Gold” as spirit and pride has shown through once again! 58 O-E TRACK HARD WORK AND SUCCESS GO HAND IN HAND 0-E track teams did well this past season, working hard to improve. The record really does not convey the improvement and talent exhibited. There was not a match played this year where the team did not emerse with a fight. A Vintage Season came to my mind when describing this team because of the experience behind them and the returning lettermen next year — we had the development of a solid core. Coaching this team had its ups and downs, but looking at the overall picture I'm proud to have coached this unit of young Ladies. The talent and leadership of two members of this team were honored by the announcement of Tisa Silvis to the 2nd team All-Star Northern Tier League, and Michelle Repine recieved an honorable mention. The bond I feel to this group is very strong and will last a long time. Thanks to all who helped and encouraged, especially Miss McCarthy. Our J.V. program showed much strength and enthusiasm and with a 6 and 8 record, pride. — Miss Fragle Varsity team members (above) are Row 1 — K. Tyler, M. Repine, C. Emery, M. Kanouff, B. VALIANT EFFORT MADE BY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL The Girls’ Basketball team, having lost many of its members at graduation last year, had a tough year. They still gave it their all and showed valiant effort. As we expected, this year was a season of learning to build for next year. A couple of our biggest downfalls were lack of experience and team effort. Hopefully, we’ll be able to learn from our mistakes and use our experience that we have gained to benefit the team in 1989. — Tisa and Lori The members of the Varsity team are (above left) M. MISS O-E GAINS EXPERIENCE IN COMMUNITY SPEAKING Representing Otto-LJred as Miss 0-E was an exciting and valuable experience that I’ll always remember. I began the summer by meeting the other high school representatives who, during the following few months, became my good friends. Throughout June and July we visited various Kiwanis and Lions Clubs in McKean County where each representative spoke to the members about the coming McKean County Fair. This public speaking experience will prove to be very beneficial in the future. During fair week the other representatives and I really enjoyed ourselves, attending all of the entertaining main attractions in the evenings. I would like to express my appreciation to my classmates for allowing me to represent them as the ’87 Miss O-E and to wish this year’s queen great success. — Johanna Milliron FRIDAY MORNINGS BRIGHTENED T he Otto Horn informs its readers of weekly events as well as entertains.
