We, the class of ’87, would like to express our appreciation to our class advisor, Miss Kim McCarthy. Due to her time, effort, and encouragement, all of the projects we undertook were successful, especially our prom. Everyone involved in the preparation of the prom owes her a great deal for her part in helping to make Somewhere Over the Rainbow an enjoyable time for all who attended. With her assistance in the past two years, we were able to strive forward and meet the goals we had set for ourselves. •••• ••• • •••••• •••••• ••••••• •••MM M« ••• ••• ••• •• •• ::: •S 1 ••• ••• ••• ••• ••••• •••••M ••• ••• III SIS ii! ••• ••• M ••••••• ••••••• ••• ••• • •• ••• • •• ••• •••••• ••••••• M« M •M ••• •••M ••••••• ••• ••• •M • •• •M ••• ••• ••• 3 Gwen M. Now we play the roles of seniors; and for us, this production is coming to an end. As graduation draws nearer and the curtain prepares to close, we are readying ourselves for the parts we will play as we each advance beyond this performance. These upcoming roles will provide us with new and different challenges. Conquering each, we help ourselves rise to superstardom; but, all of that is ahead of us. For now, people will just look at the entire cast of the Class of '87 and remember our 5-star performance! 19 PROM . . FRIENDS . . DANCES . . GRADUATION . . GREAT TIME! all the classes worked on — getting more school spirit back at O-E. It was a concern that everyone f' faced, and they all gave their best to accomplish this. The younger students came into the school year with all the enthusiasm characteristic of their classes. They channeled this high-energy feeling into school spirit, contributing a lot to the atmosphere here at O-E. Meanwhile, the older ones developed a sense of spirit through all the activities, organizations, and other forms of involvement in which they took part. Much was done to make their activities more exciting. Despite the “generation gap between classes, they all worked together to make the high I • school a brighter place. There's a friendly rivalry between the different classes that ensures things at O-E will never be boring and that all their coming activities will be rewarding. ■: 2. 1992 1991 1990 1989 1988 We, the class of 88, have set many goals to accomplish in our last two years, and we have already proved we can do what we set out to do. That's one reason we think our class is so special — we can work well together. Among the goals we have set are successful academics and a spectacular prom for the seniors and ourselves. We hope our class will be remembered as a class with school pride and spirit, and one that has handled their responsibilities well. Mr. Jordan epitomizes the ideal of a teacher — role model so important in serving others and in shaping the lives of young people. If men are judged by their deeds, fidelity, and the impact which they have on others, then Mr. Jordan exemplifies all that is good in people. After graduating from high school, he spurned opportunities to attend college and instead volunteered for military service in Korea. Serving with the Marines, he participated in some of the hardest fighting of that war and was twice wounded. Upon completion of his military service, he attended California State College. He has taught Industrial Arts in the Otto-Eldred School District since 1957 and has helped two generations of high school students build sets for their plays and proms. Because of his influence, many students have pursued careers in drafting, metal working, and carpentry. His building skills have enhanced both this school and the local community. Mr. Jordan’s avocational interests include teaching Sunday school, Bible study, hunting and fishing, and woodworking. His retirement will leave a void in this school system which will not easily be filled. Out of deepest respect and highest admiration, the OTTOCRAT wishes 46 to recognize his accomplishments. Thank you, Mr. Jordan, for a job well done! 47 James A. Participating in a physical activity increases the chances of being hurt; even the most careful athlete cannot escape injuries. Injuries not only hurt the athlete who suffers, but it also hurts the team. The team must play harder; sometimes a “sub must play. Usually the team must get psyched up to win. Sometimes there is a feeling that the team has to win for the injured person. There is a common goal. Even though the athlete is hurt, he should be given more support to get well. The fans and teammates should all support the injured player to give him self-confidence. This is dedicated to all those who had sports injuries this season. O-E has some great teams — win or lose! 58 59 4. - . During the summer, we participated in parades, went to the races, and attended several luncheons in the area. During fair week, we attended many shows. That Friday night, we performed our talent and waited patiently to see who was going to be the new queen. It was a great experience for me; but I never would have made it without my family's help, class support, and especially the confidence of my friends! v y i 76 77 FACULTY: J. Wilday and B. Many groups participated in these events such as Varsity Basketball team. Senior Choir, OTTOCRAT, Lions Clubs, Scouts, P.T.O.’s, and various classes. The combined efforts of all those involved helped to make it a big success sponsored by the Student Council. Castle, the huge rainbow, the scary forests, the farm, and of course you cannot forget the pretzels and subs! Do all the reminders bring back any “special memories?” ... the PROM OF ’86!! The hard work and dedication of the Juniors and Ms. McCarthy through that long week really paid off. The band that kept everyone hopping was “Surprise Package.” Following them for a change of pace was not a band but a DJ. The movie was “Top Secret.” The highlight of the night was the crowning of Queen Nanette Downey and King Mike Gustke! Most who attended on Friday evening.
