Cheerleaders Bring Spirit And Pride To O-E “Cheerleading isn’t all pompoms and rah-rah- rah. It’s also trying to get the students to have a good feeling about their school. These are the words of Otto- Eldred Varsity Cheerleader, KandyBoa-worth. Her attitude seems to be typical of all the Otto-Eldred Cheerleaders. They try to improve their school by encouraging spirit and pride. They aren’t only interested in doing their cheers correctly, they work at trying to get the crowd to participate. During the summer of 1981, the girls went to a cheerleading camp in Houghton, New York. They learned new cheers, a dance routine, and some fresh ideas for pep rallies. The O-E Cheerleaders worked hard and were named Moat Improved Squad . Top to bottom, left to right. Row 1: Lori McClelland, Patti Williams. (2) Captains Sue Dittman (left) are Julie Todd (right) are seasoned veterans of the basketball court. They have been team members since ninth grade. Dedication brought these girls to leadership positions on the Girls Basketball Team. (3) Coaches Kris-tan Marrone and Neil Roberts ran the team through their daily drills. DETERMINATION PUTS TEAM IN THE BASKET The Girls Basketball Team had a hard time of it in 1981. In the beginning, their path was fraught with errors, the opposition was tough. Midseason, the girls put it all together and won some games. Suddenly, they were a real basketball machine, well oiled and running smoothly. When that machine started up, there was no stopping it. This was particularly evident on Parent's night, when star senior, Sue Dittman made forty points. Sue’s effort not only won the game, it set the school record. The Terrors sailed past the Green Waves, 64-29. The team can be as proud of this season as they would be of an undefeated one. They started with many faults, recognized them, and with determination, finally conquered them. This was no easy task. It takes courage and teamwork to turn a season around. These 9 girls have hours of hard work behind them and a season to be proud of. GIRLS BASKETBALL

's' vV, JL' A y € J5 OE Meet the Otto-Eldred Cross Country Team! Top to bottom, left to right. Row 1-Dave Dewyer, Mike Pascarella. Row 2-Dave “Ace” Owens, Scott Eaton. Row 3- Scott Fox, Tom Curtin, Bill Cooper, Mark Splain. n A Above: Competition makes a practice run enjoyable. Left: Mike Pascarella gives it his all on the home course. Below: The runners sprint toward the rocks, hills, and mud of the new O-E course. Cross Country Is A Satisfying Sport It's three thirty, and you have just had a tough day at school. Every muscle of your body aches to get on that yellow bus, but you have cross country practice. You head for the locker room, since it is 50 degrees and raining you wear your sweat jacket over your shorts and T-shirt. The team meets in the gym for stretches. “Stretching out serves a dual purpose- it loosens your muscles and gives passers-by something to laugh at. After a half mile warm-up run on the Short Cut Trail, it’s off for a 5-mile run around Barger Hollow- which includes steep hills, wooded trails, and some road running. Could any practice be complete without a few miles of Chinese Rope Torturtf And don’t forget to do at least a half mile cool down and some stretching, or you’ll have sore muscles! Practice might sound like drudgery, but the feeling at the end of a race well run is beyond compare. ’ i ■ 1
