18 GUIDING HANDS OFFER HELP Mr. Howard, Drivers’ Ed., has added new material, motorcycle safety, to his classes because of the growing popularity of motorcycles. He has acquired new text books and a new machine that tests color blindness, depth perception, glare resistance, glare recovery, and reaction time. The main objectives of the Coop course are to expand the vocational education offerings of the comprehensive high school, and to provide students the experiences needed to make intel-legent career chioces. Mr. Raydo tries to encourage individual students to remain in school by providing them a meaningful program of study. There have been some changes in this course. They have acquired some individualized learning packets for students unable to be in class. Mr. Carlson, I.E.P. Coordinator, teaches Individual Educational Prescription (Resource Room). This is no longer called Special Education. The objectives of this class are to provide the student with a viable academic program that develops a sense of accomplishment and success, and to prepare the students to be productive members of society. The I.E.P. Resource Room also provides supportive assistance for students who are not enrolled in the I.E.P. room full time. This allows these students a more personal understanding of their needs, and one-on-one approach to their educational needs. Teachers pictured: left to right-Mr. Carlson, Mr. Howard, Mr. Raydo.

IT’S FOR YOUR HEALTH! Keeping us both healthy and informed about our health are Mr. Hess, Mrs. Pasko, Mr. Miller, and Mr. Roberts. The later teaches only Physical Education. Mr. Roberts teaches every day first period and second period on Tuesdays. This frees Mr. Hess to preform his duties as our new Athletic Director. Mr. Miller teaches eighth grade Health, but no Physical Education here at the high school. Both Mr. Hess and Mrs. Pasko teach Phys. Ed. and Health. They come in contact with all students since Phys. Ed. is a required subject here at Otto-Eldred. Their students get a chance to participate in sport contests and have fun at it. “Health is the study of body, mind and spirit,1’ says Mrs. Pasko, who teaches eleventh grade Health, also a required course. Mr. Hess also teaches this class. The students learn about themselves and all aspects of health.

Teachers pictured: letI to right- Mrs. Ma-har, Miss Johnson In the Library this year we have a new librarian, Miss Johnson. She leads the Otto-Eldred Library Club and the new Funky Pencil Club. The Library is actually called the Library Media Center. There a student can view filmstrips or filmloops, as well as find a book for pleasure. Current magazines are on display for students to keep up on current news, fashions, sports, etc. Space is also provided for students who wish quiet study time. Mrs. Mahar, Spanish teacher, is involved only with students of the 9-12 grades. She teaches Conversational Spanish, giving students a chance to speak the language. Also offered are Spanish l-IV. Those courses cover all aspects of Spanish grammar. At the same time, the cultures and people of Spain and Spanish American countries are studied. Frequent vocabulary tests as well as an occassional composition are required to increase skills. CRACK THOSE BOOKS — SPANISH OR ENGLISH! 19
