SUMMER COURSE to augment too-full regular schedule. Fun-time . . . In the good old summer-time Summer time means fun time for most of us. For others it's job time. But. at most. it seems but a brief in- terlude between two school years. Some of us will remember the summer of 1957 as the summer of the choir trip north-and the long hours of candy sales to pay for the trip. Others will recall the other music activities-band and choir concerts, music camps, etc. For others summer 1957 means the crack of the bat, a slide at second, a close play at home plate, and another baseball victory. Summer 1957 meant school for some of us-in the sum- l l G mer courses at OTHS. in drama institutes at North- western and Illinois. For some teachers it was the other side of the desk. At OTHS summer 1957 meant getting ready for the new school year, as plans were made and carried out by the school board by Prin. Shannon and his assistant George Wil- ly. by the janitors and other summer staff. But it is all ended too soon -and it was back to school. Before summer 1957 was real- ly gone, the Pirates were al- ready working out for what was to be an undefeated sea- son. Then the teachers re- turned for workshop. Finally it was school time for us. We put aside the bathing' suits- at least during the hours of 8:30 to 3:30-to begin an- other year at Ottawa High. For some of us it was our first year. For others it was to be our last. SWINGING into summer.
