Poseidon Club Every Wednesday afternoon the members of the Poseidon club twenty girls ln all swam under the d11ect1on of M1 s Virginia Fedosky The girls chose a theme for a water ballet wrote the script and directed it themselves producing it for public approval on May 14 It was some thing to see Any g1rl in school was eligible to try for Poseidon membership if she passed a test and was passing in three subjects Executives for the year were Dede Godfrey president Barbara Varland vice president Mireille Schneider treasurer and Beverly Carl son and Sally R5 an historians Bowling League one of the local alleys for three weeks At the end of that time eight teams of five members each were organized into the actual league which was sponsored by the GAA Ten more girls were subs for the year The league under the instructions of Miss Mandi Youmans bowled every Wednesday after school at four o clock for twenty one weeks February 14 a specially picked team entered competition for honors in the GAA state telegraphic bowling tournament The local girls Joan Vallat Nancy Hoxsey Mary White Ida Zuccarini and Dixie Chalus placed third with a score of 1991 Joan Vallat bowled the third highest single game in the state It was 198 Both the team and Joan received awards presented at a banquet held May 21 Here are the oflicers for the first semester Thelma Kellogg president Betty Saager secretary Marie Boness V108 president DIXIE Chalus treas urer They were followed second semester by Marie Boness president Patsy Jones vice president Lillian Russick secretary and Dolores Batls t1n1 treasurer 26 l l W - , Y. . , .n . .S . . . GAA Softball League GAA GAA at OHS was reorgamzed IH 1945 w1th an enrollment of eleven glrls Thxs year the roll swelled durlng two membershlp drlves totaled seventy five GAA IS sponsored by the glrls physlcal educatlon depart ment and 1n turn sponsors all g1rls athletlc and recreatlonal act1x1t1es outslde of class hours Mlss Maura Conllsk Mxss Mandl Youmans and MISS Vlfglnla Fedosky are the club advlsors Members of GAA attended a playday at L P and one at MOFFIS and financed heart examlnatlons 1n January for all members and prospectlve members In March there was a state telegraphlc basketball basket shoot lng contest 1n whlch Ottawa took thlrd place 1n 1tS d1str1ct April 11 was Famlly Nlght And at a mother and daughter supper 1n May state and local awards were presented to glrls who had earned them The officers for the year were elect d after a vlgorous campalgn last fall They were Clara Orblnl presldent Betty Saager V106 presldent secretary O Club The O club has twenty fixe members who meet sometlme durlng the first week of every month An eatmg club the boys haxe two DICHICS ex ery school year and refreshments are serv ed at the meetlngs Durmg the last school year the O club earned over 35900 whlch was used to purchase a football scoreboard To earn th1s ln part they spon sored the sale of popcorn potato chlps and candy at all home football and basketball games They also brought the Harlem Globe Trotters Hawauan All Stars Kansas Clty Stars and the House of D3X1d basketball squads to Ottawa for a benefit game proceeds of whlch were applled on the scoreboard Officers are Presldent John Suehr N106 presldent Duane Palmer secretary Dlck Claus and treasurer Bob Rosendahl 27 . i . , A .
