Hlstory Department FIVQ teachers kept the twenty three hlstory department classes busv every day These five meet ew ery OHS student before graduatlon MISS Anlta Baldw1n taught CIVICS and Umted States hlstory Project papers of 1500 words were handed 1n to MISS Edna Fellhauer by all her classes th1s year She taught CIWICS U S hlstory and economlcs 1603 to 1947 and every b1t of It ln modern hlstory outhnes' Miss Marguer1te Hempen called for that as her two groups learned the hlstory of every contlnent Commerclal law standards and labels msurance bank mg and credlt flnanclng and purchasmg a home were all t0p1CS for her w1th a sly smlle MISS Hempen s Our L1fe Today classes followed an orlen tat1on course the first semester and second term they concentrated on CIVICS Umted States government and papers on careers Mr Merle Burke and MISS Mary Allce Youmans taught world hlstory The course followed a chronologlcal pattern the nrst semester and a toplcal plan the second semester Mlss Youman s three classes drew a SCTIQS of maps on the blackboards and colored 1n terrltorles as they were studled 11 . vu T, - . . , . s . , u .. . . . , K K, . , - 7 7 consumer education class. English Department MacRae Shannon returned to O High this year after a vacation in the Navy and assumed the head post in the English department While he was gone the feminine contingent carried on The memb rs of 'Wi Ben Rott 1 s two Types cl s e made a twenty mln ute radio script one personifying books and the other dramatizlng a scene from the Tale of Tvso Cities Miss Isabella Sandels senior students made 1I1dlX1dll3l recordings I 1 March seniors entered essay contests And when May came it was hard for Miss Sanders seniors to struggle through Creative Wfltlllg took an important place in Miss Gertrude Pfell s classes Miss Marguerite Laugman emphasized modern American poetry And Miss Glo Wllson alvs ays insisted there Wasn t enough time in her classes to get all their work done With only one semester the speech class had a really packed agenda Mrs June Rickey taught make up extempore interpretixe leading public discussion and near the end of the year class members presented several one act plays Miss Virginia H6ld1Hg'6FS frosh classes did some special vwork on Treasure Island and when the time came they made a window display in one of the downtown shops And who can doubt vxhat Miss Phyllis Doty s Journalism classes did?
