Y ,, Y Ensemble Girls Sextette This year the girls sextette vt on first place at the sectional music con test in Joliet and a third place in the state meet at Springfield Their songs for the contests and the glee club concert were A Brown Bird Singing and Rain The group also sang for commencement The sextette was composed of Betty Van Cleave Sylxia Mattes first sopranos Mary Ann Walther Joanne Bahen second sopranos Margaret Metzler and Mary Cole altos The accompanist was Gretchen Beed and the director was Mr John L Hoff Mixed Fnsemble At the Joliet Sectional Music contest on March 29 the mixed ensemble receix ed '1 first division rating. Everyone was proud of th lt' so on Hay 9 the ensemble went to Springfield to compete in the state music contest. There they were rated in division three. The group also presented selec- tions at the glee club concert and at commencement. Mr. John L. Dede Godfrey, as a lovely bride, explains her predicament to Bob Langer, Marge Biecker, Bill Eichelkraut, and Wayne Butterfield, while Don Grobe, the bridegroom, hunts for his collar button Not in the picture IS Gloria Sanderson In the next scene Bill Hossack smiles his pleasure at the success of Clay Court a comedy in rhyme And down below Miriam Eichelkraut tries to hypnotize Barbara Irwin while Annabelle Gibson Joanne Wolfe Helen Antlobus and Pearl Johnson look on w1th mingled amusement and skepticism Next Bill Klee as the cannibal chief goes bei serk while Lewis Olmstead looks on in amazement The play was The King s English and the rest of the cast lncluded Bevel ly Peterson George Gurney Leslie Fiske Frank Polancic Warren Klugman Roger Hilton Jack McG1ll Delbert Battles Jerry Nelson and Bob Oberstar The fifth play presented bv Miss Isabella Sanders senior English stu dents was Drums of Oude a drama with a high degree of suspense In the cast were Genola Jo Bellrose as Mrs Jack Clayton and Duane Palmer as her suitor Captaln Hector MCGFGQOI Other parts 'were taken by Bob Purcell Jack Ahern Joe Honer Don Radle Norval Johnson and John Suehr '38 Second Night All was in an uproar in the dressing rooms backstage at the second night of senior plays. In the top picture are the make-up artists at work. Off hand, We would say that the group in the center section was just glad that The Case of Private Johnny Doe was settled. The first scene is in a military hospital where Private Johnny Doe, played by Mike Forbes, has been wounded, and while he is being prepared for an operation flash- backs give a picture of his former life. The play was very effectively staged by members of Mrs. Dorothy Rotter's senior English classes.
