Home Room Feb 29 1944 Dear Jlm Well here we are agam Those exams are finally over whew' but most of us came out all right on them Of course they werent exactly k1dd1ng when they had the Flunkers Frollc a few days ago Now to get back to the old grind Thls semester several new courses are bexng of fered to ambltlous students trlgonometry secretarlal trammg vocatlonal shop and be gmnmg Journahsm for up and coming un derclassmen to prepare for thelr ordeal on the Buccaneer and yearbook next year least ten bottles of milk and two or three lunches were accldentally dropped on the floor You should have been here to g1V6 out w1th your usual horselaugh Fortunately no one got spllled on and when peace was re stored the teachers en masse turned around agam In the cafeterla durlng early Septem ber several freshmen lnnocently started eat mg at the teachers table They soon found out' The cafeterla does good buslness this year as usual Sexeral new schemes haxe been trled out on us and have prox ed successful MISQ Brlghentl s pet scheme IS the A lunch If you get soup sandw1ch vegetable and mllk or main dlsh sandwich 'vegetable and milk flxe cents IS taken off your total These are all 1n keeplng w1th the dally food guide posted at the end of the lunch llne to lIlSp1I'6 students on the1r cho1ces Also under the Sl1bS1d19S plan whlch as Robert Gardner says cheats the farmers faheml you can get Whlte m1lk for a penny At every table quarts and quarts of the mxlgoratmg bever age haue been consumed If Dick Gerlmg doesnt start moomg soon It wont be h1s fault He drank two quarts of mllk on a bet He drank It raw straight from the bottle no straw or anything' It vias swell hay 1ng you home Just one trouble you weren t here long enough You tell your commandlng officer that you have to come home agaln There have been a lot you could all be home at once Most of them come over to school and It seems a lot llke old tlmes Most of the teachers are carrymg on a lot of correspondence w1th SQFVICG men and women icou ve probably heard from some of them I thlnk there s going to be a picture of you IH the yearbook this year Remember that plcture that W1lllS King took of you talkmg to Miss Baldw1n Well that s it You re so tth B BIIRL tad? . Speaklng of Camp Ellis thats the new tralnlng center down beyond Peorla where Mr Propps IS you know and lt seems that the hospltal there got the last batch of maga z1nes the Junior Red Cross collected They wrote Mrs MCMIIIBH a very nice thank you letter Remember The Last of the Mohzcans that novel we read when we were sophomores? Well we had it on the movle program the other day Talk about excitement' Randolph Scott was certalnly there when It came to fightmg the French and the unfriendly In dlans Of course he was always alded by h1s two Indian pals and spurred on by the loxe of the heroine I forget her name We had semester exams last week They were the same as usual hard Tests were Friday and grade sheets were passed out on the following Monday Down m the corner IS a shot of exams 1n the cafeterla The kids seem hard at work don t they? They had to be because at this particular time the physlcs tests were gomg on so you can understand why most of the klds were so intent I paid for yours and my yearbook last week I vsant to be sure to get them They cost S1 25 this yeal and Flsher Day Flske and Company are trylng to make collectlons 1n only three lnstallments Jean Pennebaker Joan Hxtter and Esther Sears received the prizes ln the snap shot contest thls year but I guess the big news IS the really good plc tures Willis Klng and others are shootlng w1th that new Speed Graphlc the school bought It's supposed to be a honey, flash gun, range finder, and everythlng The most fun of the month was the Exam Bust Remember how we doubledated last year?
