The next week lntroduced more rn alrv and our Bucs ayenged their L P defeat by defeatlng Streator 13 6 Steyenson scored both times once on a quarterback sneak and once on a beautiful pass from Cllff Thorpe I don t think any one went rlght home aftel the game not any Ottawans anyway At Sterllng we lost a 6 O dec1s1on to the Sterling WHFFIOTS Wlth our team dr1y1ng 1ns1de Sterllng s 20 yard l1ne twlce and fail mg to score Lots of the k1dS got tlme for leaylng school early to get to the game but they all thought it was worth It It w as a good game even 1f we didn t w1n The first half played aga1nst Hall was dis astrous Hall scored tW1C9 once on a 99 yard touchdow n run and once on a long touchdown pass play Startlng with the second half the Plrates charged back and w1th beautlful blocking by Ottawa s fine guards Kapas Ferracutl and Jerry Peace at center they broke Stevenson 1nto the open for 51 yards and a touchdown The Bucs came back Wlth Rexroat and Lenc1on1 pushlng It to the one yard line where Stevenson finally scored on another quarterback sneak Stevle played a really neat game that mght The next game at DIXOH the Plrates took It on the ch1n 7 0 from a scrappy D1xon team Our game w1th DeKalb was a hard fought one that saw DeKalb score first Then Pete Peterson made a spectacular pass catch for our first touchdown DeKalb scored tw1ce more by oy erpowering plays and we dldnt score aga1n until Bob H1lton made a nlce 15 yard run around left end to complete the sea sons scorlng maklng the final score read 21 12 At Moline the Bucs made a startling ad vance to the one yard line in the first minute of play but falled to push the plgskm across the coyeted goal l1ne The big Plowboys from Moline battered the Ottawa l1ne all mght and Just before the final gun sounded had ended up wlth the ball on the Plrates' s1x1nch l1ne There was no score in the game but both teams nearly knocked them sely es out trying to get across the goal The Plrate l1ne from Pete Peterson to Ev Parklns played good ball all year W1th Kapas and Ferracutl at the guards and vet eran Jerry Peace at center the forward wall of the Red and White was a hard nut to crack John Haas Dario Lenc1on1 and LOUIS Gerdmg stopped manv an off tackle play thlS season The only capable reserx es that Coach Hank could depend on all season were Bob Gerding Ed Ryan Carl Schott and Norman Richards Tom Walkel Cllff Thoipe Donald Rexroat Way ne Stey enson Harly Stellmg Bob Hllton and Da11o Lenc1on1 rounded out a backfield w 1th V612 l1ttle expeuence as was shown by our sco11ng weakness Knobs Rexroat w as Ottawa s only conslstent threat of running attack and his fine defenslye work was good all season Ferracutl just nosed out Geol ge Kapas as the most yaluable play er 1n the squad by h1s fine tackling and blocklng J R Lenc1on1 IS going to be captaln of next year s team I llsted the scores I remember how vou used to gloat oy er them Here they are VISITORS OH S Ottaw a Streator Sterhng Hal D1xon Mollne The Jayvees were a small scrappy team this year They d1d manage to hold thelr opponents on even terms the first half but du11ng the second half Cha1l1e AIIKOHISS proteges were swamped they lost all s1x games they had scheduled Here are the11 SCOFQS VISITORS OHS Jollet Ottawa La Salle Streator Streator Jollet La Salle Charlie Allkoms claims that eyen lf e boys didn t win they all got wonderful train ing Nobody spent all h1s time on the bench because Charlle would send IH the second team wheney er he could He thinks the tram 1ng they get IS more lmportant than whethei they wln but 1ts n1ce to w1n too I guess he s rlght Well I guess thats about all there IS to say about football This IS dex elopmg 1nto a pretty long letter but an awful lot has hap pened this month .
