Study Hall October 28 1943 Dear Jim Willis King was wandermg around YVIIZII his camera taking plctures the other day and he took a picture of me in study hall I guess he thought he was getting a shot of a yery in dustrlous student CI should live so longl Any way I ve enclosed the result just to prove that I really concentrate when writing you Ive owed you a letter for some tlme now and I would haye written sooner but ey ery thing imaginable and then some happened the first couple of weeks of school thls year Remember the confusion that always used to result no matter how many guides there were the first day? Well try to picture all that confusion plus eleven new teachers Really twelve but at least we knew Mr Kasllng from when you were here All the teachers hung blg signs outside thelr doors with their names on them more to put the seniors at ease than for any other ieason I suspect The teachers that left are in iust about everythlng Miss Schoone MISS Long MISS Baird and Miss Gotaas are in the WAVES Miss Law IS dolng drafting in an airplane factory 1n California Miss Ulyestad IS a school l1brar1an in Minneapolis Miss Leak IS working for WJJD 1n Chicago Miss Korellls helped in the office the first Weeks of school but is now in Chlcago too Miss Meyer IS ln Washington Mr Pali Coach McKay and Mr Shannon are all nay al lieu tenants fy g J and Mr Propps IS in the ai my now Miss Knox married John Pow ers ibut he s not the coyer girl manl We mlss em all Just llke we mlss you kids that left school to go lnto selyice Seems kind of funny hav ing both teachers and puplls leaymg to fight a yyar Teachel s and students weren t the only new thlngs th1s year we also got new celllngs in the main hall 1n the old bllllfllllg ind in Mrs Hentilch s loom They re suppo ed to deaden the noise but I don t really think it s possible Another new thlng around hele IN Togo er that IS Nlr O Connell He s the new truant officer and he really takes h1s Job seriously B111 N organ clalms he dioye away six of Glay s best customeis by announcing that Toyo-er that is Mr O Connell was on his way in But to get back to the hectic first day Mr Anderson gaye his annual F1 eshmen Welcome Speech and did It bring, back memories remembei how scaled we were the first day that ayvful feeling that he might look down at you and say What are YOU doing here Remember how Mr Hof entranced us? Never had we seen anyone yv1th qulte that much energy' Well after the freshmen had been proper ly awed the usual confusion deyeloped two or three freshmen all golng dlfferent ways and under the care of one measlv guide Everybody finally got settled though Of course it did take one small one I swear they get l1ttler ey ery year a week to realize he wasnt supposed to have two study halls a day but he finally caught on too MISS Le May had her annual dlmCUltl8S with unhappy students that were determined to change their schedules And the office nearly went nuts with people that dldnt lcnou that school started before nlne The yery first week Mr Anderson and Mr Hoff were in chal ge of an all school assembly Marty Olle Bob Saleda T Bone Lelx and Joe Maccona were all home then and thev . , , a L ' 1 v I V .
