IN MEMORIAM 1Ioward Wakefieeld Crowden was born in Center Ottawa on May 28, 1904. He attended the gram- mar schools of the city of Ottawa and entered the Ottawa High School in the autumn of 1918. He left high school in the year 1921 and attended Lake Forest Academy, where he was taken ill. Howard was well liked by all his classmates and teachers, and was a very popular and loyal student. He played a prominent part in athletics, winning an UO while attending the Ottawa High School, and playing on the first team while attending Lake Forest. We, who knew him as a boy and fellow student, realize now, perhaps more than ever before, the goodness of him as a friend, and his personality remains sacred to our memory while we continue in the walks of our daily life. -By the President of the Senior Class.

Four years have we journeyed on the road to knowledge, and now the milestone is in full view. we have suf- fered much, many sacrifices have We made in our efforts to drive away the clouds of ignorance, folly, and superstition which low- ered themselves over the minds of our faculty during the past four years. It has been a long and tedious labor. But at last we have won our reward. What ,a prominence it gives a class to be recognized by the faculty and lower classmen as one of O. H. S.'s ideal classes! Looking backward, we can scarcely recognize ourselves as those shrinking Freshmen who registered September 3, 1918, as members of the school body of the Ottawa Township High School. The agony and turmoil of that first day in our new home are still vivid in our minds. However, as our first year progressed we learned very much of school etiquette, and almost before we realized it we were very nearly as digniied as our older brothers and sisters. On September 5, 1919, one hundred and six Sophomores an- swered roll call. The mere mention of our Sophomore year fills every one of us with pride. Our class had the privilege and honor of being the first class to organize when Sophomores. Under the most excellent care of Miss Baldwin, we chose Palmer Byrne as president, Eleda Hassley vice-president, Douglas Cooke treasurer, and Marion Baker secretary. Our only social function that year was a class party, which was truly a huge success. In the fall of 1920 the members of our class assembled together in the Junior study hall, under the capable guidance and leader- ship of Miss Wilson. At once we proceeded to perfect our class organization by electing Milton Howard president, Tom Carey vice- president, Joseph Geiger treasurer, and Eleanor Hay secretary. The class was unable to find a suitable date for the class party, conse- quently we did not have it. However, we put our best efforts into making a success of the Junior-Senior reception, which was held May 6th. As Seniors we have always taken an active part in the promo- tion of school athletics, and this year we can lay claim to a football captain, with several of his gridiron warriors, and also a basket- ball captain, with some of his basketball artists. The annual Senior party was held on the evening of December 16th, and in every way was one of our most enjoyable parties. Our class play, The Invalid Wife, which was presented so ably by some of our talented classmates, will always be cherished in the memory of the class. But, looking forward-how few are the days until we join the ranks of the Alumni, yet how full of pleasure-the Junior-Senior reception in the near future, the Faculty reception, the annual school picnic, and then the Hnal goal of achievement-Oommencement. 4, -1.1-.-I-..I-...1..1..1......p1g....u........u.......g....n- 115511171I-ll-Qlp-51.51.1711-.llT.g1 Q-rl'
