RAY E. DEARDORFF, B.A., M.S. Superintendent of Ottawa Hills schools When Ray E. Deardorff came to Ottawa Hills in 1937, few could have foretold the diversified career that was to be his. His first accomplishments were in the field of athletics when in 1942 he coached the basketball team to a state victory. Off the court, he devoted his time to teaching a variety of sub- iects. ln fourteen years he ascended the ad- ministrative ladder from assistant principal to principal to superintendent. Aside from his busy schedule, he found time to take part in many professional ac- tivities on educational committees, national, city, state, and county organizations and athletic boards. He was also instrumental in establishing and organizing the area and state Student Council. His many contributions have led to his listing in Who's Who in Amer- ican Education. At the termination of such long association with Ottawa Hills, Mr. Deardorff could not help but express a note of optimism, This school system has in the past few years met many of the greatest challenges of its history and has never achieved higher educational standards than those of the present time. The Ottawa Hills School system has met its challenges, and I have every con- fidence it can continue to do so.
