In return for this devotion we, the Class of 1967, dedicate our yearbook to you . . . MR. RICHARD KUZMA. i..A ,.1 :. S C Facul Them . Q3 Q ' ' RAY E. DEARDORFF, B.A., M.S. Superintendent of Ottawa Hills schools When Ray E. Deardorff came to Ottawa Hills in 1937, few could have foretold the diversified career that was to be his. His first accomplishments were in the field of athletics when in 1942 he coached the basketball team to a state victory. Off the court, he devoted his time to teaching a variety of sub- iects. ln fourteen years he ascended the ad- ministrative ladder from assistant principal to principal to superintendent. Aside from his busy schedule, he found time to take part in many professional ac- tivities on educational committees, national, city, state, and county organizations and athletic boards. He was also instrumental in establishing and organizing the area and state Student Council. His many contributions have led to his listing in Who's Who in Amer- ican Education. At the termination of such long association with Ottawa Hills, Mr. Deardorff could not help but express a note of optimism, This school system has in the past few years met many of the greatest challenges of its history and has never achieved higher educational standards than those of the present time. The Ottawa Hills School system has met its challenges, and I have every con- fidence it can continue to do so. l 1 1 11 'IH 5 LAWRENCE W. Who ever said being an officer is You'd better believe we're the bestl work? The Senior Class of I967 will soon be fading into a memory for the underclass- men and faculty of Ottawa Hills High School, however, this memory will be one of the finest the school has had for many years. The Class of '67 is a group of extremely talented individuals ranging from athletes to scholars, from actors to poets, and from musicians to scientists. But we haven't been iust a class or large group of people following each other around like sheep, we have been instead a group of individuals united by our own personal excellence. Now we are on our way out, we are becoming something that was. We are be- coming a memory, but not a memory that is thought of and soon forgotten. The Class of '67 will long be remembered as one of the finest ever at O.H.H.S. Mike Brooks l just thought l'd get a little read- ing done. . . . Anne . . . sweet and sincere . . . While our reach has perhaps exceeded our grasp, it would be overly optimistic to expect that we could com- plete all that we had hoped in one year. We have tried to promote school spirit, leadership, and serv- ice, and thanks to your help l can say that we have succeeded. I am particularly gratified by our suc- cessful proiects such as the buses, the lounge, and the assemblies which have helped us to make an- other step forward. It has been our goal to be a creative Council and to utilize new tools and ideas to develop truly im- aginative' proiects. Now next year's Council must take our place, and l hope that their grasp will, in the best interests of the future and of tradition, exceed our reach. Rick Crowley fs 24 SEATED: M. Brooks, D. By competing in games against area schools and by play- ing sports in an intramural program be- tween the different grades of our school, girls are better able to learn and prac- tice individual skills, to understand the meaning of sportsmanship, and to have a greater respect for athletics. Noel Coward's BLITHE SPIRIT was done in the fall, cmd the musical ONCE UPON A MATTRESS was done in April. These two comedies were not only hilariously funny, but also were the two most professionally done plays that Ottawa Hills has ever presented. Under the direction of Mr. VancesMcCarter, the Drama Club hias developed a pro- duction system comparable to the one used in the professional theater. The result of this new production technique has been evident in the increasing standards of quality set by this season's two entertaining and memorable plays. Suzanne Marshall ROW 1: C. Wolson, N.
