Words and pictures may record events, but they alone cannot express all that is Ottawa Hills. The T966 Mesasa is meant for a greater purpose: to bring the year to life, to capture the essence of Ottawa Hills. This is your yearbook, and yet it is more than iust a yearbook. lt is a reminder of your herit- age, the heritage of Ottawa Hills, which we have lived and now leave to you. If I were to give this year a name, I would call it the Year of the Challenge. In September Mr, Geresy told us that he wanted Student Council to take an active part in running the school and even in policy-making. This attitude gave us many new responsibilities, such as the planning of assemblies and the scheduling of all student activities. Al- though we have not accomplished all that I had hoped, I feel we have started to make Student Council truly a student government. One of the most gratifying aspects of this year has been the student support of several key proi- ects. I am especially referring to the Viet Nam proiect, which was ct resounding success. It was a good example of what our school is capable of doing if everyone is willing to work. I would like to thank Mr. Means, our advisor, who continually gave of his time and energies to help us in any way possible. Also, I feel it was an honor to have had the opportunity of working with the seventeen council members. I hope and trust that next year's council will ex- pand and improve what we have started and will utilize all its resources in order to make Ottawa Hills as good as it can and should be. We sponsored a tea for new members, held a Halloween party for fifteen needy children, made bear badges for school spirit, filled Thanksgiving baskets for a welfare family, and used the proceeds from our quarter dance to send supplies to Viet Nam. Our knowledge of world affairs was broadened by slides of Russia and by speakers on Cuba and Sweden. Friendly relations were developed through an Ohio- wide conference, a potluck before a game, and the spring formal dance at the Y.W.C.A. It has been my pleasure to coach the Reserve Seaway Conference Champions. This all-sophomore team compiled an ll-6 record, scoring 782 points to the oppon- ents' 698. They played with determination and hustle which were compensation for lack of height. Their team effort is best illustrated in the scoring, with seven men averaging very close together in points per game. We are looking forward to two more years of fine basketball from these boys. She has taught us the tools of learning which have served us well in school. She has taught us also the principles and va lues which will serve us faithfully in life. Through her advice we have begun with the best decisionp through her inspiration we have gone on to greater achievements: through her guidance we have come at last to know ourselves. Such is the debt which we owe to Mrs. Helen Braun, a debt which will be fully repaid only in future years, when her boys and girls are grown into men and women of whom she can be proud-men and women who give of themselves to serve others and thus continue her heritage of service.
