An idea was born eighteen years ago, an idea that has since grown into a revered tradition of Ottawa Hills. It was in 1940 that the first graduating class decided to prepare a testimonial of their admiration and gratitude for Ottawa Hills High School. This testimonial took the form ol' a yearbook. Before the wheels of oper- ation could be set in motion, however, the Class of 1941 had to overcome an obstacle, they had to find a suitable, yet symbolic, name for the book. To solve this problem the editorial staff sponsored a student contest for the naming of the yearbook. A committee of seniors selected the best names from those submitted, and these were again voted upon by the student body. Glenn McDaniel, a senior, won the contest with the name Mcsrzsa, denoting N one of the last and most pow- erful Ottawa Indian chiefs. Now equipped with a name, the Class of 1941 set the wheels to turning, stopping them every so often to overcome other obstacles, but constantly progressing until they emerged with the first yearbook of Ottawa llills, the MESASA. The Class of 1958 has continued this tradition by preparing a tes- timonial of their own, designed to show their admiration and gratitude for Ottawa Hills by re- flecting the laekadaisical and laborious, the laughable and laudable, life that is led under its protecting care. .f-'4
