CLASS HISTORY It was September 7, 1944 when Miss Martha greeted twenty-four new first graders into the West Building. Of these twenty-four, janet Canger, Phyllis Pargeon, Phyllis Kibsgard, Clara Schreiber, Barbara Hamilton, Joanne Brennan, Joyce Blossom, and Sara Wilkinson spent all twelve years at Ottawa Public. Miss Martha taught us in both the first and the second grades. In these first two grades we had the tedious job of learning our ABC,s. We learned to write our ABC's and to read short stories in the third grade. Mrs. Koehl taught us this year and Larry Morman and Bonnie Buckland joined us. In the fourth grade we got to change classes, which made us feel very grown-up. We had two teachers, Mrs. Koehl and Mrs. Gulker. During this year we studied a few new things like history and geography. Billy Stover then joined the Mighty Classf, Finally we were the oldest in the West Building, but our glory was short lived. In the middle of this year we moved to the East Building where we again were the youngest. Bonnie Buckland left us in the early part of the year and Shelby McAllaster and Don Cox came in. Mrs. Schaefer taught us both in the fifth and sixth grades. We gained three new members this year: Torn Kitchen, Nanette Millager, who hailed from Cleveland, and Ronald f Skip j Mason from Pennsylvania. Well, we finally made the grade. We were in junior high. Mr. Wheaton was our homeroom teacher and we were in the study hall with the eighth grade. Some of the fellas played basketball on our junior high team and two of the girls were cheerleaders. This year we also became acquainted with the high school teachers. Tom Kitchen left us in the eighth grade. Everybody was eager to choose his own subjects and dreaded the thought of our freshman initiation. The green,' freshmen were initiated in the fall and we all discovered it was a lot of fun. Bonnie Buckland came back to us after attending Leipsic since she left us in the fifth grade. We gained Marilyn Andrews from Mt. Clemans, Michigan. During our high school years the class was active in one-act plays, band, mixed chorus, boys' chorus, girls' chorus, sports and a few of us participated in the Prince of Peace contest. As juniors we lost Don Cox who left us to join the army. This year we presented our junior class play - The Clue of the Red Ribbon. The biggest and best event of all was the junior-Senior Prom. Miss Stauffer was our home- room teacher. The most memorable year, of course, was our senior year. We presented our class play Mister Angelf' which was our biggest success of the year. The juniorls gave us a swell prom. The decorations and the entertainment were superb. We took our class trip to New York and Washington, D. C. from May 13 to May 17. Our Baccalaureate and Commencement put the final touches on our most memorable year at Ottawa Public. LOVE IEWELERS C Z. Home oi amp :ments of Nationally Advertised Merchandise ROBINSON? CLASS PROPHECY Deal' Nan, September 12, 1965 It seems like only last week I was writing notes to you in study hall, but I've figured it up and it has been nearly ten years. just where has the time gone? I was disappointed not to see you at Phyllis Pargeon's party last week. Almost everyone from the Class of 55,' was there. Can that gal ever give parties! Shels working for a famous caterer in New York and has complete charge of all children,s parties. janet Canger, her husband and family Ca son and two daughters! were there. And she was going to teach school, remember? They,re living in Katcha-cole, New jersey where he is a marine oHicer. Oh, Nan, you've just got to see Sara and Dennis' twins. Theyjre only two years old but already Sara is teaching them to drive the tractor, Which reminds me, I read an article in last weeks' paper about Larry Morman. Seems he was promoted to manager of that sports car agency for which he works. He came to Phyllis, party in his old,' jaguar. Did you know Bill Stover was elected Governor of Illinois last November? Pretty nice, um-m? Not too surprising though. He always was the brain of our government class. His attractive and efficient secretary was none other than Shelby McAllaster. I say was for she recently resigned to marry her high school sweetheart. I got a card from Barbara Hamilton last week, and of all things - she was on her honeymoon. They were spending a couple of weeks in the Canadian XVilds, she said, and from there they were going to Florida. Something about stock cars, I think she said. It must be nice to travel like that. You went quite a few places though as airline stewardess, didn't you? I can,t imagine why you gave that up to teach kindergarten. Oh, the peace and quiet you gave away. We've been too busy building our home and keeping the boys from slaughter- each other to travel much. My journeying days lie in the future, as both of our sons are positive they'll soon own rockets! Speaking of kids, Bonnie and Gerald brought their young-uns to Phyllis, party and are they characters! Of course, how could they help it? Bonnie has a studio of her own where she gives hucklebuck lessons and teaches western music. Nan, in your last letter you told me about Clara Schreibefs promotion to Head Nurse in Yatta Hospital. She's married to a throat specialist from there, isn't she? Joanne Brennan is a registered nurse now and gives piano concerts too. I noticed in the New York Times' gossip column that she's been dating Liberace. Tom Kitchen, better known as Tycoon Tom now owns a chain of drug stores. He started as a stock clerk and talked his way up to head pharmacist. Tonight we're going to the theater to see the re-make of Streetcar Named Desire, starring that teriflic Broadway actress, Joyce Blossom. Her theatrical career is really blooming ! You remember Skip Mason's really unlimited talents. Well, he's still at it. He has made quite a fortune in the garbage disposal business, proving that education pays and pays. I was in Madame Iau Lea's Dress Shop not long ago fdrooling over a pink jacket! and just imagine who Madame Iau Lea is! Our own Marilyn Andrews! Her husband, whom she met in Paris, designs all the clothes she sells. Simply have to finish this now, as it's time for the boys to be home from school and we,re all going out to the lake for supper tonight. Love, Phyl P.S. Did you know that JoAnn Morgret has a kindergarten class too? It's some- where in eastern Texas and she recently won state recognition for her good work. 14
