CLASS HISTORY It was September 7, 1944 when Miss Martha greeted twenty-four new first graders into the West Building. Of these twenty-four, janet Canger, Phyllis Pargeon, Phyllis Kibsgard, Clara Schreiber, Barbara Hamilton, Joanne Brennan, Joyce Blossom, and Sara Wilkinson spent all twelve years at Ottawa Public. Miss Martha taught us in both the first and the second grades. In these first two grades we had the tedious job of learning our ABC,s. We learned to write our ABC's and to read short stories in the third grade. Mrs. Koehl taught us this year and Larry Morman and Bonnie Buckland joined us. In the fourth grade we got to change classes, which made us feel very grown-up. We had two teachers, Mrs. Koehl and Mrs. Gulker. During this year we studied a few new things like history and geography. Billy Stover then joined the Mighty Classf, Finally we were the oldest in the West Building, but our glory was short lived. In the middle of this year we moved to the East Building where we again were the youngest. Bonnie Buckland left us in the early part of the year and Shelby McAllaster and Don Cox came in. Mrs. Schaefer taught us both in the fifth and sixth grades. We gained three new members this year: Torn Kitchen, Nanette Millager, who hailed from Cleveland, and Ronald f Skip j Mason from Pennsylvania. Well, we finally made the grade. We were in junior high. Mr. Wheaton was our homeroom teacher and we were in the study hall with the eighth grade. Some of the fellas played basketball on our junior high team and two of the girls were cheerleaders. This year we also became acquainted with the high school teachers. Tom Kitchen left us in the eighth grade. Everybody was eager to choose his own subjects and dreaded the thought of our freshman initiation. The green,' freshmen were initiated in the fall and we all discovered it was a lot of fun. Bonnie Buckland came back to us after attending Leipsic since she left us in the fifth grade. We gained Marilyn Andrews from Mt. Clemans, Michigan. During our high school years the class was active in one-act plays, band, mixed chorus, boys' chorus, girls' chorus, sports and a few of us participated in the Prince of Peace contest. As juniors we lost Don Cox who left us to join the army. This year we presented our junior class play - The Clue of the Red Ribbon. The biggest and best event of all was the junior-Senior Prom. Miss Stauffer was our home- room teacher. The most memorable year, of course, was our senior year. We presented our class play Mister Angelf' which was our biggest success of the year. The juniorls gave us a swell prom. The decorations and the entertainment were superb. We took our class trip to New York and Washington, D. C. from May 13 to May 17.
