That working together as a class can be profitable, socially, as well as educationally. 2. That a little thought and concentration can pro- duce many worth while things. 3. That there is no substitute for co-operation. 4. That work, thought, and co-operation blended to- gether can form a book of memoirs enjoyable to all. Thus we give you - On Ottawa of 1955! 2 DEDICATION Ready always to co-operate with a class. Used every minute of her time wisely. Taught English grammar, literature and drama equally well. Held firmly to the belief Cod helps those who help themselves. Capability was one of her many virtues. Few things existed of which Miss Frey had no knowledge of. Respected nature highly for its wonderous seasons. Expressed herself well under any circumstance. Youth was her main interest and she gave many years of her life to educating it. -3- OTTAWA PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASI UM b '3?3J 4 is 'H+'H'H'H' -vw 'L fpfl lnlooa MBI TB, Q1 4...-.. . Of these twenty-four, janet Canger, Phyllis Pargeon, Phyllis Kibsgard, Clara Schreiber, Barbara Hamilton, Joanne Brennan, Joyce Blossom, and Sara Wilkinson spent all twelve years at Ottawa Public. Miss Martha taught us in both the first and the second grades. In these first two grades we had the tedious job of learning our ABC,s. We learned to write our ABC's and to read short stories in the third grade. Mrs. Koehl taught us this year and Larry Morman and Bonnie Buckland joined us. In the fourth grade we got to change classes, which made us feel very grown-up. We had two teachers, Mrs. Koehl and Mrs. Gulker. During this year we studied a few new things like history and geography. Billy Stover then joined the Mighty Classf, Finally we were the oldest in the West Building, but our glory was short lived. In the middle of this year we moved to the East Building where we again were the youngest. Bonnie Buckland left us in the early part of the year and Shelby McAllaster and Don Cox came in. Mrs. Schaefer taught us both in the fifth and sixth grades. We gained three new members this year: Torn Kitchen, Nanette Millager, who hailed from Cleveland, and Ronald f Skip j Mason from Pennsylvania. Well, we finally made the grade. We were in junior high. Mr. Wheaton was our homeroom teacher and we were in the study hall with the eighth grade. Some of the fellas played basketball on our junior high team and two of the girls were cheerleaders. This year we also became acquainted with the high school teachers. Tom Kitchen left us in the eighth grade. Everybody was eager to choose his own subjects and dreaded the thought of our freshman initiation. The green,' freshmen were initiated in the fall and we all discovered it was a lot of fun. Bonnie Buckland came back to us after attending Leipsic since she left us in the fifth grade. We gained Marilyn Andrews from Mt. Clemans, Michigan. During our high school years the class was active in one-act plays, band, mixed chorus, boys' chorus, girls' chorus, sports and a few of us participated in the Prince of Peace contest. As juniors we lost Don Cox who left us to join the army. This year we presented our junior class play - The Clue of the Red Ribbon. The biggest and best event of all was the junior-Senior Prom. Miss Stauffer was our home- room teacher. The most memorable year, of course, was our senior year. We presented our class play Mister Angelf' which was our biggest success of the year. The juniorls gave us a swell prom. The decorations and the entertainment were superb. We took our class trip to New York and Washington, D. C. from May 13 to May 17. Our Baccalaureate and Commencement put the final touches on our most memorable year at Ottawa Public. LOVE IEWELERS C Z. Home oi amp :ments of Nationally Advertised Merchandise ROBINSON? AUTO SUPPLY I. I. Stillman, Manager Phone 5 Lima, Ohio Leipsic, Ohio 13 CLASS PROPHECY Deal' Nan, September 12, 1965 It seems like only last week I was writing notes to you in study hall, but I've figured it up and it has been nearly ten years. just where has the time gone? I was disappointed not to see you at Phyllis Pargeon's party last week. Almost everyone from the Class of 55,' was there. Can that gal ever give parties! Shels working for a famous caterer in New York and has complete charge of all children,s parties. janet Canger, her husband and family Ca son and two daughters! were there. And she was going to teach school, remember? They,re living in Katcha-cole, New jersey where he is a marine oHicer. Oh, Nan, you've just got to see Sara and Dennis' twins. Theyjre only two years old but already Sara is teaching them to drive the tractor, Which reminds me, I read an article in last weeks' paper about Larry Morman. Seems he was promoted to manager of that sports car agency for which he works. He came to Phyllis, party in his old,' jaguar. Did you know Bill Stover was elected Governor of Illinois last November? Pretty nice, um-m? Not too surprising though. He always was the brain of our government class. His attractive and efficient secretary was none other than Shelby McAllaster. I say was for she recently resigned to marry her high school sweetheart. I got a card from Barbara Hamilton last week, and of all things - she was on her honeymoon. They were spending a couple of weeks in the Canadian XVilds, she said, and from there they were going to Florida. Something about stock cars, I think she said. It must be nice to travel like that. You went quite a few places though as airline stewardess, didn't you? I can,t imagine why you gave that up to teach kindergarten. Oh, the peace and quiet you gave away. We've been too busy building our home and keeping the boys from slaughter- each other to travel much. My journeying days lie in the future, as both of our sons are positive they'll soon own rockets! Speaking of kids, Bonnie and Gerald brought their young-uns to Phyllis, party and are they characters! Of course, how could they help it? Bonnie has a studio of her own where she gives hucklebuck lessons and teaches western music. Nan, in your last letter you told me about Clara Schreibefs promotion to Head Nurse in Yatta Hospital. She's married to a throat specialist from there, isn't she? Joanne Brennan is a registered nurse now and gives piano concerts too. I noticed in the New York Times' gossip column that she's been dating Liberace. Tom Kitchen, better known as Tycoon Tom now owns a chain of drug stores. He started as a stock clerk and talked his way up to head pharmacist. Tonight we're going to the theater to see the re-make of Streetcar Named Desire, starring that teriflic Broadway actress, Joyce Blossom. Her theatrical career is really blooming ! You remember Skip Mason's really unlimited talents. Well, he's still at it. He has made quite a fortune in the garbage disposal business, proving that education pays and pays. I was in Madame Iau Lea's Dress Shop not long ago fdrooling over a pink jacket! and just imagine who Madame Iau Lea is! Our own Marilyn Andrews! Her husband, whom she met in Paris, designs all the clothes she sells. Simply have to finish this now, as it's time for the boys to be home from school and we,re all going out to the lake for supper tonight. Love, Phyl P.S. Did you know that JoAnn Morgret has a kindergarten class too? It's some- where in eastern Texas and she recently won state recognition for her good work. 14 CLASS WILL I, Phyllis Pargeon, being of sound mind, will to Judy Cmy smallest sisterl my music ability. Yes, everybody was interested. But we juniors kept it pretty well to our- selves until the exciting night of May 14, 1954. The juniors hold this wonderful event to one of the most important affairs in their high-school years. What fun we had decorating the gym and the cafeteria of our new school for this big occasion. Miss Stauffer, our junior advisor certainly must have been glad when it was over. But now to get to the big night! We started the evening with a banquet for the faculty, seniors, and juniors. The mothers of the juniors served a delicious dinner of chicken on biscuits, with creamed peas, a beautiful relish, hot rolls, a perfection salad and milk. The dessert was out of this world, cherry pie alamode. After the dinner the program began with the invocation by Mr. Quaintance which was followed by the welcome given by Sara Wilkinson, junior class president. joAnn Pargeon, senior class president gave the response. Four junior girls, Bonnie Buckland, Shelby McAllaster, Barbara Hamilton and Marilyn Andrews sang How Deep Is The Oceanf followed by a duet given by joAnn and Phyllis Pargeon. Their number was Garden In The Rainf' Miss Ruth C. Frey served as our speaker for the evening. The dance started at 9:00 p.m. in our auditorium. When the guests entered the gym, the expressions and comments made us feel very good. The decorations consisted of a garden lawn outlined with white rocks. Young blossomed trees were the background for a tall lattice work entwined with American beauty roses. Bird baths were donned with flowers also. Decorated card tables were crowded around with fellows and gals with the prettiest gowns and suits ever. The back drop was of navy blue with silver stars. A big golden moon shone through the blue which was all very romantic. You have probably guessed the theme of our prom by now, but if you haven't it was In My Carden. , The Aristocrats from Bowling Green furnished the music for the dance. About 12:00 everyone got tired of dancing so we left the gym and went to the parties given by several junior girls. We were all glad to end a wonderful, exciting evening and retire to our own homes and sleep. Yes, it was a lot of fun and we are looking forward to next yearis prom! The busy junior Class still has the distinction of having an even number of boys and girls in our class. This year we have two new members, Bob Stover and Betty Clark from Columbus Grove and Continental respectively. Early in September we acquired what all juniors look forward tog that was our class rings. On October 28th our class had a Chili Supper and a Bingo Party. Many people came and enjoyed a pleasant evening. Then on November 12 and 13, after many hours of rehearsal, we presented our class play, No More Homework. Early in the fall we canvassed Ottawa and the surrounding communities for a paper drive. During the basketball season we had the concessions at the gym, which increased our treasury. On March 12th, our class sponsored a Disc Jockey Dance with Clif Willis and Mike May. A nice crowd from many schools attended. Our class this year has taken an active part in all the school activities such as one-act plays, contest play, music, athletics, and many others. We gave the George Washington Assembly and the Easter Chapel with Reverend Thomas. We have been very busy with the junior-Senior Prom and Banquet, which will be April 30. 24 SOPHOMORE CLASS Svcunrl How: jack Michal-I, Richard Hoffman, Ruth Pargcon, Iill Popv, Phil Sm-itz, Anno Light, Geraldine- Comhs, Dick Millagcr, and Mrs. Pau-lla. Her parents are-or ought to be-Stacy and Lydia Bolton, man and wife actress producer team. They think they'd like children but the theater is too absorging for the present to spare any time for other matters. Heaven gives up hope of Stacy and Lydia's doing their duty as parents and sends Charles, an angel and his helper angels to bring Item back to Heaven. But Item wonit go with Charles because she wants to be born to Stacy and Lydia and no one else. Charles disobeys his orders and stays to help Item. Charles ap- pears as Slim, a cowboy fro mMontana and wealthy owner of the Flyin' Angel ranch. The Boltons are delighted with him, Lydia especially, and Charles tries to persuade her that her real role in life is motherhood. He does this so success- fully that Stacy is alarmed. Lydia seems about to desert the theater and Stacy doesn't want her to. So Stacy checks on Slim's background and finds he has no ranch, money and is unknown in Montana-and what's now, he resembles a criminal wanted by the police! Two policemen appear to take Slim to jail. Slim laughs and tells them that he is an angel and will disappear now. But he does not disappear because his Heavenly powers are gone. Heaven is punishing him for disobeying orders, but Item starts praying for him and he disappears. The policemen in terror, go to the nearest church and Stacy and Lydia finally decide they want a child. Item will finally be born to the Boltons and Charles goes back to Heaven, mission accomplished.
