We welcomed Mr. Randy Hardy as our new Superintendent and Mr. Michael Ruhe as our new Principal. The senior class demonstrated their school spirit with all the colorful signs they hung during the school year, encouraging each of the teams. They also formulated the Blue Crew, a senior cheering section and the Titan Man returned to lead O-G fans in cheers. The Marching Titan Brass worked hard practicing and earning money so they could head south for Florida. And our O-G basketball team made us proud as they swept the W.B.L. title. The Thunderbolt Staff hopes you will appreciate this volume and turn to it to recall your days at OGHS. Jerry Lugo and Carol Rieman reigned as king and queen over the annual event. The theme of Homecoming, decided on by the Student Council, was Music Television (MTV). All American Girls 15 Senior Farewell As we walk down the aisle. We all have to stop and think awhile. As we look through the tinted glass. We can see ourselves sitting in class. Doing our homework and dreaming about the future. As we reminisce, we see our freshman year. Entering a strange school with faces of confusion and cheer. We made many new friends, and lost a dear one, Lisa Rose, We all loved her just like God did, because it was Lisa whom He chose. Our Sophomore year was full of excitement. Getting to drive was a delight, Hopping in our cars and cruising on a Saturday night. After a second attempt on building a float. We earned first place in our whole school, And that's when we thought we were really cool. As we were starting our Junior year, We knew that graduation was near. But we kept busy with the Junior-Senior Prom, And created the gym into a castle, titling it a Romantic Evening in Camelot. We thoroughly enjoyed making it fun for everyone a lot. Now Seniors, we hit it with a bang. The Class of 1985 went out known as the WBL Basketball Champions . Putting on our Senior Play brought us all together as one, Even though it was hard work, we all had a lot of fun. As we walk through these doors of O-G High, We will all leave with a certain sigh. But our memories of the times we had together. Will stay with us forever and ever. β€” Kelly Buddelmeyer β€” 16 Outstanding Seniors Take Responsibility The 1985 graduating class of Ottawa-Glandorf High School was filled with a lot of good and sad memories. Memories of Homecoming, Prom, My Fair Lady , Cedar Point, sports, and their big day. Graduation. Looking back through the past years they grew closer together and lost a good friend, Lisa Barber. They will never forget the memories she gave them; her intelligence, musical and artistic abilities, and her friendly personality. Together they did a great job at putting spirit and pride into their high school through the Blue Crew and the Senior Spirits. The class of 85 has a right to be proud. The band traveled to three field competitions, winning two Grand Champion trophies; one at Lake High School and one at North Coast. They also won Class B Champs at Westland High School. Throughout the season, the band was featured at parades and fair shows such as the Glandorf Sesquisentenial Parade, Walt Disney World Parade and the Edison Pageant Parade of Lights. They also were featured at the Allen County and Van Wert County Fair Shows. In June '84 the band members started to save their pennies forthe big band trip to FLORIDA! Each band member had to come up with their share of the money. They sold candy bars, popcorn, and tickets for band shows. They traveled to Kissimie, Florida and played at Disney World and they traveled to Fort Meyers for another parade. All the students had a super time basking in sunny Florida while friends and family at home battled a blizzard. Row 1: Shelly Closson. Kelly Heitmeyer. Belinda Honingfort. Auxiliaries Strive for a Exciting and Successful Season Needing only three new replacements for the flag corp and rifle corp, and having the entire majorette corp return from last year, the auxiliaries achieved what they strived for, success. They took every possible trophy at two of the three major competitions the band went to. Many extra hours of practice paid off and the new flags also added a new look. Captains of the auxiliaries did an outstanding job in leading their groups. Casey Imm served as captain for the flag corp and Kelly Heitmeyer was the captain for the rifle corp. Laurie Martin was head majorette. Ken Schortgen is to be congratulated for his fine job of coordinating the auxiliaries. Cabaret 1985 The Seniors reminisced through the Louie and Kenny Days at Cabaret 1985. Many band members received band letters for meeting certain requirements such as: two outside appearances, being a leader of the band, being a member of marching, concert, or wind ensemble band, and be challenged or challenge someone. Long hard hours were put in to make Cabaret a success. The band members pitched in and bought Louie and Kenny a trophy case to hold the overflowing amount of trophies. The Senior members also got Louie and Kenny a pen and pencil set. Denise Salisbury read a poem about the Louie and Kenny Days while balloons fell from the ceiling to the auditorium. The Senior band members voted Gail Schroeder student director and she directed the band. cJa wm Β± wm c β€œoottf iern, Go nJoH 76 77 National Honor Society Row 1: Mrs. Peg Niese. THOMPSON PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO Professional Photographs at Reasonable Rates. Portraits β€” Weddings β€” Commercial 135 S. Oak Phone: 532-5644 Ottawa The 1985 Thunderbolt is one of many changes from previous editions. The student staff, made up of 25 students, wanted the 21st volumne to be remembered for Its uniqueness. We changed the color of the cover, chose Graffiti as our theme, added senior baby pictures, and many other new ideas. The book was printed by Hunter Publishing in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The cover and divider pages were drawn by Scott Brinkman; endsheets were done by Carol Rieman. Professional photographs were taken by Powell Studios in Detroit, Michigan, and the remaining photos were taken by staff photographers: Scott Brinkman, Jodi Schomaeker, Dawn Palte, and Vicki Kuhlman. Miss Maureen Galvin served as 2nd year faculty advisor. The 1985 Thunderbolt was sold to the student body for $17.50 in the spring and $20.00 in the fall. 400 copies were printed. On behalf of the 1985 Thunderbolt staff, I would like to wish the seniors the best of luck in their future endeavors and my hope is that this book will serve as a source of many pleasant memories.
