Titan Pride Shines Through In future years, when looking back on the 1982-1983 school year, all of us will have memories that are special to just ourselves — an extraordinary parly, that special guy or gal, or just being with friends. There were also many experiences shared by all which helped to bring our classes and our school closer together. Freshman year, in many cases, was scary, but also exciting and full of new experiences. A new school, new classmates, and mastering your locker combination seldom proved dull. As sophomore year rolled around, our horizons were broadening past just school life — especially when it became time to get the long-awaited driver's license! Junior year was a busy one. Running the concession stand and building an extra-special and beautiful prom required class unity. And then came the last step — Senior year. Thoughts of college filled our heads, but there was still plenty of time for the events we have looked forward to throughout high school — our last homecoming, our Senior musical, our Senior prom, and graduation with all of the festivities — just to name a few. If you were on a team or in the band, you strove to make this last season one you would never forget. We hope that as you leaf through the 1983 Thunderbolt, now and in years to come, the memories and smiles of yesterday won't seem so far away. a. The 1982 Football Team's enthusiasm and high hopes exemplified the overall strong desire and determination to win felt by all O-G teams this year. b. Hard work and long hours were nothing new to this year's Titan brass. During the 1982 marching band season, their sacrifices and determination paid off. Among the many honors won by the Titan brass this year, was the highly respected and much coveted Grand Champion award at the Ohio State Fair. Congratulations on a job very well done, band-skis! 2 Seniors o. Duane Piper did a fine job for the wrestling team this year, and although several of our wrestlers were young and inexperienced, they helped carry the team to many victories. b. Rod Alt pulls down one of his many re-bounds, which helped the boys' basketball team to post a victorious season and win their sectional. c. The 1982-1983 Titan Girls' Basketball Team awaits the results of the opening tip during a tournament game. Each warm and friendly smile. You brought such gladness to my heart. The sunshine to my day; And just because we two have met. I've known a brighter way. I'm very glad, and yet I know It cannot always be. There comes a time when friends must part Though close as you and me. Life sends us on another road And distance hurts our heart; Because it's hard to realize That even friends must part. And yet I'm glad our lives have touched. That we have come to meet. I'm glad for every dream we shared. The bitter and the sweet. And years cannot erase the joy. The gladness sublime Dear friend, please know within my heart I'm glad your life touched mine. — Garnett Ann Schultz 46 Sophomores Sophomores Take it Easy! a. Are you girts getting high on life? d. The seniors of '86 had looked forward to this moment for a long time. On August 24, 1982, it finally happened. Being a freshman meant being unsure of what surprises were in store. With the help of the upperclassmen, the freshmen quickly fit in. Their first challenges were opening their lockers and finding their classes. Then came the building of the first float at homecoming, the selling of the candles for a fund raiser, and then the ordering of the class rings. Now that the year has passed the class of '86 has one year down and hopefully the next three will be easier. Next year they will be sophomores and get to see the class of '87 coming in with mixed emotions, wondering, was I ever like that? a. Locust St. Ottawa, Ohio 523-6988 The 1983 Thunderbolt, Volume 19 was put together by a staff of about 20 students. The book was printed by Hunter Publishing in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The cover, end-sheets, and dividers were drawn by Steve Dunn. Professional photographs were taken by Powell Studios in Detroit, Michigan, and the remaining photos were taken by staff photographers Tim Meyer, Scott Gomer, and Phil Beckman. Production of the yearbook was under the supervision of 1st year Advisor Mrs. Pat Smith. Another change for the yearbook this year was a 16 page color section featuring the Seniors. Advertisements were difficult this year with the slow business of our area. The book was sold to the student body in advance for $15 and $17, depending upon when it was purchased. 400 copies of the 1983 book were purchased for the 1983 school year. Colophon-Ads 187 Class of '83 Bids Farewell As the yearbook finally began to piece together bit by bit, we realized that although we had honored the Seniors by placing the Senior pictures in color, there was really no section for Senior candids. Therefore, the closing of the 1983 Thunderbolt has been dedicated to the Class of '83, which has studied and partied its way through four years at O.G.H.S. Many thanks go out to our teachers and parents for all their support and care in the past 18 years. The road to graduation would have been much rougher without their guidance. Also, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mrs. Smith and the 1983 Thunderbolt staff for their hard work and dedication. Lisa Jones Editor a. Food's that good, huh, Joyce? b. These demerit slips are depressing. c. Please spare us, Tony! 188 Closing a. Beth Hovest, on the go. b. Patty. Amy. Dee Dee, Beth, and Shelly are all smiles when the cooks serve tacos. c.
