The Leaders . . .158. .. rAV -GU When we were Freshmen we had a key which unlocked a new door, the door to our future—a door which will stay open for the rest of our lives. It will lead us to unexpected things—memories that we shall hold in our hearts and in our minds for the rest of our lives. In the Sophomore year we turned a key, a key which opened a door where we face many challenging decisions which will pave the pathway to our future. Then in the Junior year as we gave the Seniors a Southern Enchantment, we know they enjoyed the social opportunities Besides our education became broader as we selected from multiple curriculum choices. Finally in the last year of our high school we present Bye, Bye, Birdie to the 0—G School. And the last day we close the door to our public school education. But after that day we hold another key, a key to the years to come. THE RESTLESS Phillip L. Brickner March 22,1959 June 17,1977 They never quite leave us. . They never quite leave us, our friends who have passed Through the shadows of death to the sunlight above; A thousand sweet memories are holding them fast To the places they blessed with their presence and love, The work which they left and the books which they read Speak mutely, though still with an eloquence rare, And the songs that they sang, the words that they said, Yet linger and sigh on the desolate air... Margaret E. Sangster Randall Victor Hoehn President The Ottawa-Glandorf Graduating Class of 1977 Yesterday is but a dream .. . And tomorrow is only a vision . . . But today, well-lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness. . . And every tomorrow a vision of hope.. . Look well, therefore, to this day. Allen G. One straight, bold line might be a memory from Homecoming, the marvelous time we had being there. Or a very curvy fine line could have been the fun moments and the serious times we had in Bye, Bye, Birdie, which we shall always cherish. Maybe it was a highly trimmed area for our Science Club, VICA, National Honor Society, or the Varsity Club accomplishments. It could have been several curls which adds a little twist for Southern Enchantment. At the tip of the key there might be an arch with some twirls for our Senior Graduation. Yes, this key holds many lines and curls which we have achieved during our high school years at Ottawa-Glandorf. Mr. Steffan hands keys to a 1977 Ford LTD to Robert Clark, instructor for summer driving. Driving will be so much funl! 96 through Drivers’ Education Programs Benny, we see you are enjoying the class. Mr. Joseph Neinberg teaches the in-class require ments of the Drivers' Ed Program. Do handouts mean studying for tests, Mr. Neinberg? Both Steffan Ford and Howell's Chevrolet and Olds furnish Drivers' Education cars to O-G. Each student must participate in 24 hours of training. Six of these hours nust be spent in driving while the other 18 hours must be that of an observant passenger. So the cars are used extensively because every potential driver must take a drivers' education course. Often we fail to thank these merchants who give a great deal to help educate our youth. Even our instructors, Larry Burkhart, Robert Clark, Ron Niekamp, Sam Gomer, and John Cunningham join us in thanking you, the car dealers. 97 Pep Rallies and Assemblies Where are the girls, guys? Show Unity and Spirit I mean, what can I say? You're No Good, You're No Good! ms 4 Amen, Amen. Are you two playing a game, or is this really a pep rally? “Hi! My name is Pebbles. 99 Sports is one of the biggest and most exciting keys we hold. I guess the saying for sports still holds for O-G.. . The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. . This saying does not hold for our football team. Even though they didn't go to state they all went to our hearts with the great combination of B.J. Dickey and Al Laubenthal. The Golf team had just as much success. Cross-Country runner, Al Hermiller, did a terrific terrific job for O-G, as a first year runner. The agony of defeat is what the girls felt as they suffered many defeats. They tried hard in volleyball and basketball. In basketball they won their first tournament game but lost the second. But they had determination; it shows with the girls' track team as they got off on the right foot. The Titan Basketball team drank from the cup containing the sweetness of victory, when they advanced to the state semi-finals. Everyone was deeply excited as eleven guys showed their great ability and as they brought home trophies for their accomplishments. The boys' track got the taste of victory as they gathered more and more wins and the guys broke many records. Football Cheerleaders V. The band did many different things this year. First, the band went to Ohio State Fair, prepared to put on a fine performance, but received a wet welcome. None of the bands performed at State this year because of the rain. Next, the Marching Brass did a supreme job playing at our Titan football games. In the fall they combined their talents with the Defiance Marching Band for the Bicentennial Year Performance. After this, the band practiced day after day, week after week, until the day they left Ottawa to go to Washington to play at the Cherry Blossom Festival. Of course, they toured Washington, visited the monuments, museums, and memorable sights. But, the main purpose was to play their instruments; they did this on a wet April day. When they finished playing, they didn't think they achieved anything. But when they got back to Ottawa, they found out they did earn a third place. To show their efforts they received a very nice plaque. Finally came the last performance for the Seniors, the 1977 Cabaret. As Louie Breece handed Al Hovest, the Student Director, his stick, the Seniors knew they had to give him a supreme performance for their last time. Without their help we may never have been able to open the door to our future. They taught us how to work with people. They gave us the knowledge and wisdom that many of us would need to continue onward to educate ourselves further. They taught us how to be responsible men and women. Often the teachers were our friends. They would talk to us and give us some useful advice they thought we would need. We, the student body, shall never forget these keys in our lives—the cluster of keys we gathered throughout the years we were in school. Thank you for the time, energy and help you have given us, teachers. We shall always be proud of you and thankful for your kindness. Thanks! THE LEADERS Moments of Expressions 160 Howard C. The keys that contain the memories we had collected throughout high school become ours forever. When the 199 Seniors of 1977 each receive their diploma, they will each know they achieved some knowledge and understanding, and that each one accomplished something at Ottawa-Glandorf. They will all step down and let the Juniors of 1978 step forth and dare to attain the accomplishments we had achieved during the four years at O-G. As the Seniors walk out of the doors of Ottawa-Glandorf and lock in that chain of memories, each will find another key,a key which will start a new chain of events for the years which lie ahead. We shall never forget our fellow classmates, underclassmen, or the faculty, who gave so much to us. Editor Linda Yaufman Autographs ? TO 84 UFUTUR
