It is the story of the people involved in presenting a musical revival of the Shakespearian play “The Taming of the Shrew” Fred Graham is the director of the Shakespearian production, and he also stars in it as Petruchio. Lilli Vanessi Our Guiding Light is his temperamental co-star and former wife. She stars as Kate in “The Shrew The events in the lives of Kate and Petruchio run closely parallel to the lives of Fred and Lilli as the rivalry’ between them is pointed out and emphasized again and again in the scenes from “The Shrew . Of course, all ends well, and everyone lives “happily ever after but the events leading up to the finale make for an enjoyable evening of humor and music for all who viewed the 1971 Senior Class s production of “Kiss Me, Kate . the TALENT behind Without these seven people, “ Cm Me, Kate” could never have become the successful production of which all involved were so proud. The actors put their full efforts into their parts but all trying would have been in vain without the talent and know-how contributed so willingly by this group. Mary Hathaway and Tom Martin, seniors, demonstrated their talents at piano and drums, both doing excellent jobs. Miss Lois Meyers, also at the piano, gave us the total of her talent and sound musical advice. Miss Stephanie Schumacker, choreographer for the show, added greatly because of the beauty and precision of the dance numbers vital to a musical. Serving as technical directors and make-up artist, Stanley Swartz gave a more professional look to the show in many subtle ways with lighting, staging, etc. Mrs. Elinor Brown, assistant director, had endless good suggestions to make moves, lines, everything go smoother, easier, better. Last but certainly not least, Charles LaCrande, director, gave o himself to all facets of the show. He possesses the unique ability of making the actors work together and. forgetting themselves and self-consciousness, give beyond the ability that they ever believed they had. To each of these fine people, the 1971 Senior Class extends a heartfelt thank you for a terrific show! the TALENT 23 So, Kiss Me Kate, darling devil divine. Another op’nin', another show! Practice makes perfect! Fred! What are you doing?!! We come to collect a little IOU. It Was Any Tom, Dick, or Harry. One more remark like that, Russ . . . Bianca I'm marrying Miss Vanessi, you know. Higher, girls, higher. 24 He said quiet, damn it!! My hand is ready. Tea time? fS! Father!! Truly Wunderbar I’m a maid who would marry. All I have is alcohol. “Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of Our Lives” Honor Graduates Fifteen seniors graduated with honors this year. Shown here, they are: (3RD ROW, L. TO R.) Larry Ellerbrock, I om Ah man, Russ Kersh, Ken Leopold, Keith Osterhage, Larry Croy. (2ND ROW) Elaine Sager, Peg Drerup, Mary Hathaway, Rose Ellerbrock. (1ST ROW) Joyce Schroeder, Jeanne Knapke, Annette Leopold, Lois Laubenthal. Joni Wood. Class Flower: Long-stemmed Red White Roses Class Song: “Get Together” Lore is but a song we. sing, And fear’s the way we die. You can make the mountains ring, Or make the angels cry. Tho’ the bird is on the wing, And you may not know why. Come on, people, now Smile on your brother; Everybody Get Together, Try to love one another right now. Some will come and some tvill go, And we shall surely pass, When the one that left us here Returns for us at last. We are but a moment’s sunlight Fading in the grass Come on, people now Smile on your brother; Everybody Get Together, Try to love one another right now. If you hear the song I sing. You will understand. You hold the key to love and fear In your trembling hand. Just one key unlocks them both; It’s there at your command. Come on, people, now Smile on your brother; Everybody Gel Together, Try to love one another right now. Right now. Right now! 26 Larry Croy Speakers Graduation was met with tears and laughter, hellos and goodbyes, and a feeling of apprehension as the seniors of 1971 set out to conquer their future. Speakers, Mary Hathaway, Larry EUerbrock, Joni Wood, and class president, Larry Croy, tried to put into words icliat each of the seniors felt as they thought about what was happening to them on this momentous day. President Larry greeted the parents, faculty, and students and offered thanks to all for the parts they played in helping the graduates attain their goals thus far. Holding back her tears, Mary reminisced on past class projects and fun, reminding the class of ‘71 that they had indeed accomplished a great deal in their twelve years of school. Larry informed the families of the students of the different extracurricular activities in which the graduating seniors participated, and Joni speculated on the future of the 149 graduates and what the world outside of Ottawa-Glandorf would have to offer them. Then graduate they did, and the Class of 1971 set out to finish what will be “the rest of their lives . Mary Hathaway J oni Wood Senior Ensemble The Senior Ensemble looked to the future with song. Singing “The World Just Is, My Son and “We've Only Just Begun are (BACK, L. TO K.) Jim Kottenbrock, Tern Hughes, Mark Kidd, Greg Hoffman. Faculty 35 Mrs. Murmaii (r) and Mrs. Siebenick spent their time in the Superintendent’s office looking after the endless paperwork involved with school administration. Mr. Ratliff has been Superintendent of 0-G for the past six years. During that time he has brought many changes to the O-G school system. He was confronted with many difficulties in the performance of his duties but he continued bravely. This is Mr. Ratliff’s last year with 0-G and we take this opportunity to say thank you for your efforts and good luck in future endeavors. 36 Thomas G. Wright These ladies, Mrs. Brinkman and Mrs. Smith, were invaluable to Mr. Wright, the faculty and students. The secretaries went out of their way to be helpful, courteous and conscientious in dealing with people in need. Mr. Wright has served at the Principal's desk of 0-G for the past five years. The effects of his efforts have been seen by faculty and students alike. Mr. Wright's position left him open to much criticism but we are certain that he followed the dictates of his conscience to the best of his ability while under great pressure. Mr. Wright is leaving 0-G this year and to him also, we say thank you and wish every' success. 37 Giving students their undivided attention and concern throughout the year of 1970 71 were the counselors: DONALD MARSH--B.S., Defiance College; M.S., Indiana U.; Student Council Ad- visor. The beautiful weather that night helped make the romantic setting within the castle walls. After dancing to the music of the T. S. After the Inn activities, the rest of the morning was free for the happy prom-goers to attend “private” parties. The gift is just to show our thanks In hopes that you’ll remember The lively class of ‘71 You met back one September. We must have been a freaky bunch All honking and all screeching-But look how well you’ve made us play With your fantastic teaching. But you taught us more than music. You also taught us how to liw And by your own example. You taught us how to give-To give of self to others, To always be a good sport. And to show our appreciation, Here’s a little “moral support.” Now we have to leave, you, But you’ll never be too far; You’ll always be in our memory No matter where we are. So now, by seeing how we look, You know we all feel sad-And you can always be sure That we won’t forget you. Dad. 129 Titan Brass, Marching Memories Under the superior direction of Louis A.
