Ottawa - Qlaudorf High School Ottawa, Ohio Volume VI 70 Zhmderbolt Student Cife 5 Leslie K. Ratliff Superintendent v Mr. Ratliff, our energetic superintendent, headed the staff at the end of the administration hall. He attended the Board of Education meetings, and tried to help in reaching an agreement between the Board and teachers during the March teachers’ walk-out. Jdeiiie R. RcUUjjf Mrs. Morman and Mrs. Siebenick were employed as office and secretary assistants for the Superintendent’s office. They kept track of financial transactions for the various clubs of the students. “BOARD OF EDUCATION’’ Robert F. Weis, President Daren E. Calvin James Crawfis Alan Klemm Carl Frick, Clerk Virgil Ellerbrock, Vice-President 6 Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Brinkman have been employed by the 0-G school as secretaries to the principal. They represent the kind, courteous, and patient people in their field. Many times they were asked to write excuses and tardy slips for the students who attend our school. Besides this, Mrs. Brinkman served as a study hall monitor during the lunch period. Congratulations, ladies, for your understanding and efficiency. Q. Wnicjltt Zhomas Q. Wright Principal Mr. Wright has served as O-G’s principal for the past four years. Although many think that a principal's job is an easy one, there are many hardships placed upon the shoulders of the men who are “big” enough to accept such a position. Mr. Wright was faced with many such decisions this year of which the outcome could have made, or broken the unity of the students and teachers. However, at last glance, everything seemed to be normal. Principals usually have to take and listen to all the complaining by both teachers and students. But since no one is perfect-although everyone is entitled to his own opinion-no one should be allowed to pass judgment on a man for doing his job the best he knows how as he follows his conscience. 7 8 Mr. Emil C. Helping in the Principals office were these well-trained girls behind the “girLs”. They are: Betty Maag, Diane Drerup. These workhorses from 0-G arc to be commended as they were always willing to help any strays who wandered into the office. Greeting us every morning over “WOGHS” with “Today’s menu is . . .” is our bright-eyed and bushy-mouthed Kevin Dickey. Mr. Weber had the very good fortune of having these six girls work in his office. His fleet-footed workers are: Pam Hoffman, Patti Gerdeman, Lindy Schwarz, Deb Matijevich, Phyllis Croy, and Kathy Hoffman. Helping in the Guidance Office throughout the long and arduous day are: Ann Schroeder, Rose Ann Buddclmeyer, Lynn Stechschulte, Pat Leonard, Beth Schroeder, and Len Brown. Workers in the Superintendent’s office were these two wonderful helpers, Karen Dickman and Janet Meyer. 12 Mr. Jean Morgret is employed primarily as night janitor, being fortunate enough to have the job of cleaning up after everyone else has gone home for the day. Mr. Morgret was also confronted very often with the antics of the SPIRITS and was even known to take part in their exploits. We wish to thank you, Mr. Morgret, for letting us in frequently to edit this year’s Annual. - -Vi vi v xS Mr. Richard Docpkcr was noted for his upkeep of the landscape, and making sure the machinery was kept in working order. One of the more exciting incidents he was called upon to help solve was the case of the vanishing screws. Congratulations on a job well done, Mr. Docpkcr! Mr. A1 Dunn, head janitor, is known by the students and faculty for his efficiency and willingness to cooperate. Many times he was called to the aid of a weary teacher. Wc hope Mr. Dunn will remain an important aspect of our school for a long time. Roy Doepker. one of our own students, assisted in the cleaning program after school and on Saturdays keeping the rooms neat and the wastebaskets empty. Roy was often called on. especially during the Musicals, to unlock the stage doors and storage rooms so necessary materials could be used. This efficient crew of women, led by Mrs. Roof, was known for the tasty food and order kept in the cafeteria. They include from left to right: Mrs. Wilson. Mrs. Roof, Mrs. Palte, Mrs. Schroeder, Mrs. Fortman, and Mrs. Barlage. Cooks 13 — 16 17 18 The Senior Class was active in many projects during the 1969-1970 school year. Their first masterpiece of the year was a float which they entered in the Homecoming parade in October. Next, a Sadie Hawkins dance in mid-November brought out the old rusty shotguns and the potent com-squeezing for an evening of fun and frolics. The big event for this class, however, came in the shape of a tomboyish female vs. the big city girl as they staged the very successful “Calamity Jane”. Finally, on May 24, at 2:30 P.M., the climax of 12 years of toil, tears, and laughter was experienced by 152 excited but perplexed individuals as they gathered together for the last time to receive their long-awaited but well-deserved diplomas. Dave Schmiedebusch, Pal Rockers Beth Schroeder, Dan Salsburey, Janet Burwell, Gary Frey, Bonnie Kersh, Patti Gerdeman. Dick Clingaman, and Alan Kuhlman. 19 Judith A. Ruhc Gerald G. The story opens in 1867, in the small western town of Deadwood, South Dakota, which is nestled among the famous Black Hills of Dakota. The “gang”, gathered around the bar of the “Golden Garter --Dead wood’s main attraction-greets Calamity Jane as she arrives from successfully bringing in the stagecoach. The manager, Henry Miller, questions Calamity about a passenger, namely one New York actress, whom he is expecting for his evening performance. A brief mix-up occurs which is sure to ruin the reputation of the “Golden Garter” and its manager. Calamity, however, comes to the rescue with a harebrained idea which ironically sets the scene for the remainder of the story. Many members took some part in the All-School musical. The entire group presented a very interesting and enjoyable program at Cabaret during which the senior members were presented an award of appreciation. For the Senior Sextet, their last performance took place on May 24th at graduation: here they chose two numbers to bring to a close their high school singing careers. The Titans held the number one position for a few weeks, hut lost the ending league games, thus losing the crown. Under the coaching of Wayne Smith assisted by Mr. Del Nichols, the Titans learned that the hardest job was to accept defeat as it trains for a win. Kandy Fortman won the Mast Improved Flayer award. Mrry Mima won the Most Valuable Player award leading the Titan team in touchdowns and most yards gained. Co-captains Jim Calvin and Kevin Dickey called the toss before each game. 115 The 1969 Cross-Country team celebrated an undefeated season. Coach Ki hard Purdy first brought golf to Ottawa-Glandorf three years ago. Since then our golf team has improved considerably. Six swingers hit the courses in hot pursuit of a little white hall. You could always find these six boys out on the greens on those hot spring days. Working individually each boy practiced to lower his score, while improving his game. This year’s team defeated several more schools than the previous year’s teams and placed in the tournament. And finally God will fall Unless we can form one band To act like the married should, “One in being and in soul”. We must learn to love, as much as the boy who could Only hope to put as much love in his mother's trust. For God is only as lie seems, lie runs on trust, good deeds, and—love! He’ll judge us only as lie deems. Not worrying about hippies, peace, war, and dove. If I loved you And you did me. And then a few More might see; A little more for each life, such as a ton So lift each day slightly above. For first we all must become one. And God will only be equalled by His love. God is dead. Or haven t you heard the word That all the people of the world have found A new way to wait for their ills to be cured. We’re very much like the al co hoi ic—drowned In his drink, wondering just when he will quit The very thing that will kill him. You may think Of it as the drug addict making his hit By becoming absorbed in his heroin sink; Or as the war in Viet Nam continues On its solemn way, you wonder how long it will take For them, or us, to start the fuse. Nudity in our films would normally make All the people blush with bashfulness; But now instead you sit and stare Just to sec all that lovely flesh. The movies, rated by what is bare. Are now too far gone. The unusual is usual. The hard is easy, the rich is bland. The wicked, worse. 159 160 161 162 163 164 165 166 nnrhor V_______ KX1 WOITH KXM 167
