gl-5 s.LL Baseball has often been called the national past time of the United States and O.R.H.S. shares the enthusiasm of the nation for this sport. ' The smooth-rolling baseball n1ne,1ncluding seven letter men, had an outstanding season. Up to May 2 the boys won 4 out of 6 games. The baseball team's fine record brought results when the boys were invited to play in a tournament in Centerview, May 9 and 10. The boys accepted the invitation and played Hanston in the first game. The following boys participated in baseball: William Crom- well, pitcher, Alvin Menzer, catcher, Norman Brack, first baseg Eldon Rankin, second base, Cecil Hergert, third base, Lavern Mausolf, shortstop, Raymond Nagel, left field, Willis Brack, centerfieldg and Eugene Urban, right field. Edward Basgall, Fredric Rothe, Leonard Folkerts, Edwin Ohn- macht, Harold Steitz, Paul Wagner, Ray Wagner, Everett Stegman, Eugene Stegman, and Leonard Urban also saw action in some of the games. The boys were coached by Mr. Carl Wahl. We bid farewell tothe following seniors who have helped make the team a success: Willis Brack, Lavern Mausolf, Eldon Rankin, Raymond Nagel, Alvin Menzer, Fredric Rothe an Leonard Folkerts. ev 9. nl The main events of the season was the R-E-N track, tennis, and horseshoe meet May 5. Tennis and horseshoe were played in the morning. In tennis Nelson Reinhardt of Bison won the singles and Sammy Moore and Hans Raum of Otis won the doubles. Virgil Boese of Alexander won the singles in horseshoeg Freidenberger and K. Elder of Bison won the doubles. The track meet in the afternoon proved very successful for the Eagles. Otis won the meet with sci points. The tracksters won eight of sixteen first places. The firsts were: 100 yard dash won by Reinhold Suppesg mile run won by Lavern Mausolfg 880 relay composed of Eldon Rankin, Eugene Harder, Reinhold Suppes, and Charles Appelg 880 yard run by Elmer miller, medley relay run by Reinhold Suppes, Eldon Rankin, Charles Appel, and William Cromwell, the mile relay composed of Robert Mootz, Paul Yost, Lilburn Muth, and Kenneth Suiter. Both the pole vault and broad jump were won by Eugene Harder. Five of the six trophies given were won by Otis. They were: 880 relay, mile relay, medley relay, the tennis doubles trophy, and the championship trophy for winning the track meet. The other trophy was won by Reinhardt of Bison in tennis singles. Blue, red, and white ribbons were given to those taking first, second, and third place in each event. Otis had a number of other track meets in which they made a fine showing.
