MM IZLJLG The vocal. section. of the music department thas shown great improvement this year. The boys' glee club, composed of twenty-seven members, has performed at various programs during the year. At the R.E.N. League Music Contest they received a rating of excellent. The girls' glee club consists of forty-four members. This group also performed at several programs during the year and re- ceived a rating of good in the league contest. The girls' sextette is composed of Betty Manahan, first so- pranog Alberta Schlegel, first sopranog Bertha Schneider, second sopranog Bette Huenergardt,altog kathleen Tammen, alto. They re- ceived a rating of excellent at the music contest at Bazine. Another musical group is the mixed quartet composed of Carol Lee Schlegel, sopranog hathleen Tammen, altog Wesley Hayes,tenor5 Fredric Rothe, bass. This group has been a favorite wherever they have appeared. Vocal solists who represented Otis at Bazine were: Fredric Rothe, a bass, Carol Lee Schlenel, a soprano, and Kathleen Tammen an alto, each receiving a rating of superior. llib ' C TM. MUSEC During the first semester the music department presented a program. The band and orchestra played a varied group of numbers. March 18, the music department presented a program consisting of the musical numbers wzlch would be entered in the R. E. N. Contest at Bazine. The band and orchestra, instrumental soloists, vocal soloists, glee clubs and mixed chorus performed andthe band and orchestra played two numbers. The Hill-Billy orchestra was the hit of the evening when it played UPlantationU by De Lamater. Saturday, April 29, at the R. E. N. League Contest the in- strumental soloists received the following ratings: Wesley Hayes E flat Bass, highly superior, Lillian De Wald, Flute, superior, George Butherus, Cornet, good, Lavern Mausolf, Clarinet, Excel- lent, Carol Lee Schlegel, Piano, highly superior, Elaine Hurst, Snare Drum, good. At the R. E. N. League Contest the instrumen- tal organizations received the following ratings: Clarinet Quar- tet, goodg Orchestra, excellent, Band, superior. At the Hays District Festival where there was much greater competition, the instrumental soloists again ranked high.
