Huskles 1956 57 The story of the Othello Basketball Team for the year of 1956 57 is a story of youths with an admirable de termination for vsinning and to such a degree that they won the admiration of all both fans and opposition alike The nucleus of the team stemmed from two returning lettermen Shirley Christensen and Larry McCourt1e The remainder of the lst squad being composed mostly f underclassmen short in height but long on desire and attitude was Buzz Hjelm Gene Warsham and Larry Shaw Most athletic teams gain strength from the re serves out for the sport for after all it is through their work and efforts that the team is ready for any campaign The Huskies group of reserves were certainly those who could be counted on with such persons as Brent Smith Ross ohnson Bob Shaw Steve Gray K Bailey Perry Holton Eldon Blanton and Earl Fegert The year was indeed a new challenge for the small hustlrng Huskies but .1 year to be remembered by all The victory oxer Ritzxille which was the first in the schools history the near victory against the Wenatchee Panthers who had the Huskies 5 inches a player and ever so many other thrills that were provided throughout the year It is indeed a sad note for the coach of the coming season who at graduation this year will lose an outstanding group of athletes. They are: Shirley Christensen Buzz Hjelm Earl Fegert Eldon Blanton Perry Holton and Brent Smith. The future of the Huskies will indeed be carried on in fine style by the group of returning lettermen. It is 0 this group and to the boys who have played their last game for the Red and White of Othello that vue say Thanks boys' for a job well done. Page 67
