HISTORY On a sunny September rnornmg 1n 1941 Barry Greene Andrew Short Mar garet and Betty Beach Charles Anderson Betty Bump Lawrence Trask Janet Holbrook Ela1ne M1ller and Mary Jensen bravely entered the flrst grade at Otego Central School and began the happlest 12 years of the1r young l1ves In our second year we learned about the Ind1ans as well as gammg a know ledge of tell1ng tune and good health hab1ts FO11OW1Hg that we began our bus1ness tra1n1ng by constructmg a store and post off1ce W1th the help of Betty Bump's toy cash reg1ster we learned the f1ne art of maklng change We also had a play en t1tled The Tom Thumb Weddlng wh1ch was presented before the publ1c and was very well rece1ved Betty Bump was the brlde and Stanley Purdy was the groom Roy Perk1ns and Sh1rley Lent Jomed us 1n our th1rd year In the fourth and f1fth grades we were 1n1t1ated 1nto the myster1es of long d1v1s1on at the same t1me absorbmg some Anclent H1story In the f1fth grade we 1nvaded the S011eSS garden Next 1n the slxth grade we began to reallze that we had come halfway up the tra1l of learmng and the best was yet to come Jane H1lf1ger Jomed us th1s year We w1ll always remember the seventh grade for Just as we were begmmng to feel really worldly w1se and soph1st1cated 1n1t1at1on reared 1ts ugly head On the fateful day we were hum1l1ated paddled soaked electrocuted and otherw1se tortured at the hands of the w1ll1ng sen1ors We were Jomed by Joan Slmmons and Clyde Norton 1n our seventh year Mrs Sawyer and Mr Maclntyre were our Homeroom adv1sors As seven 1S followed by exght we started out our e1ghth year w1th Mr G1eslmann and M1ss Re1nhe1mer as our adv1sors Durmg th1s year our ma1n event was the long awa1ted tr1p to Howe Caverns Pat Veen Pat Barwood and Bob Halstead Jomed us th1s year At last we reached our Freshman year We held our flrst class dance 1n March w1th mus1c by The Santa Fe R1ders Jean DeMarr1as Jomed our ranks as a freshman Our class adv1sors were Mr Hover and Mrs Survlllo We added the f1na1 member to our rolls 1n our sophmore year when B111 Coote Jomed us from Waterv1lle We had a dance 1n February w1th rnuslc by Jack Forsythe Our class adv1sors were Mrs Dunne and Mr MacMullen H1gh po1nts 1n our Jumor year were the selectxon of class r1ngs 1n October and two dances 1n November and February w1th rnuslc by the Woodhull Boys We were becom1ng f1nanc1ally successful nett1ng a good prof1t from dances a spaghetu supper and magazme subscr1pt1on sales Mrs Henderson and Mr Bartholomew were our adv1sors At last we were nearmg the end of our school career as we became w1se and solemn sen1ors w1th 11 years of school memor1es beh1nd us We held our f1rst dance 1n September w1th L1nus Houck and our second U1 March w1th Ern1e Russ We presented our sen1or play entltled C1ement1ne Th1s productxon was a unammous success both f1nanc1ally and 1n the fun we had present1ng It As the Yearbook goes to press we are eagerly countmg the days 't1ll our semor tr1p to New York and Washmgton After our tr1p we w1ll be lookmg forward for that June mght when we w1ll rece1ve our hard earned d1p1omas It IS then that we w1ll reallze that although one phase of our l1ves 15 over yet we have the ster11ng memor1es of our school careers to guxde us over the uncerta1n path wh1ch hes ahead . 1 .v 9 ' 1 a .9 3 I I Q , - , . .v . , ' ' ' ll I . a . 1 J . , . . . 0 , - , .
