Our first year ended. As sophomores we in truth enjoyed the infantile actions of the Freshmen. We were grown up now and could look at their embarrassments with glee. About this time we were struggling wi h that terrible ogre Geometry and sad to relate some of us fell into its clutches With thinned ranks we became the envied uniors and began our socia, activiiies to create a coveted treasury. We held numerous entertainments as means of increasing our bank account. We introduced an innovation. utwilight hops , dances which have become almost weekly events. Our ambitious desires led us to break all precedent by producing The Charnc. School . The play proved a financial and artisiic success. The actors seemed to live their parts and although the majority had had no previous experience, they performed their roles in a most delightful manner. Out treasury enabled us to entertain the Seniors at a most successful Prom. .Qeve1 did the gym present a more brilliant appearance wi'h hundreds of Japanese lanterns and myriads of colored lighs. . 45A+ Y Lg, 5 5 R f VL J K' gg g g L. How we, in our turn, would show our authority over any unfortunate occupying our coveted chair! We, too, would feel a sense of superiority and ownership, envied by us when we saw the then Seniors walk proudly in and out of 313 as though Lords of all they surveyed . September l927. Our goal gained, and Senior Hall ours by right of possession as a reward of three years of study and concentration. Not wishing to lose the laurels won as Juniors, we organized early, under the leadership of Loyal lVlcNeal as president lVlary Alice Colbert vice-president Ruth Stacy secretary and ames Callaghan treasurer We became Seniors with a balance in our treasury From the date of organization the goal of graduation with its incident expenses if we were to enjoy the usual commencement pleasures was kept before us The necessity of a large treasury to finance these activities was the motive of many pleasurable social events The Christmas Dance the Joint effort of seniors and Juniors had for its purpose the enertalnment with gifts of the children of our two orphan homes Never did youths and maidens enter more wholeheartedly into an endeavor The result was most gratifying and the joy and pleasure of the orphans was a rich recompense During our last term of school we have held several candy sales a bake sale a rummage sale all of which added materially to our treasury We introduced another innovation a Poverty Hop which attracted the curious and again our bank account grew Our last event was a Senior Get togethe To this the reaction was graltfying This history will be incomplete unless we pay our mead of praise our social advisor of the past two years Miss Robinson whose interest in our activities has been unfiaggmg whose advice has been yudicious and whose efforts have been untirlng To her we owe much and we wish thus publicly to thank her and avow our appreciation One outstanding and altogether delightful event of the year was the unlor Prom une 9th The secrecy of their plans and the occasional hints of surprises ln store for us whetted our curiosity but failed to prepare us fo what proved to be a unloue and charmingly attractive ball Our most earnes wish is that they may enjoy an equally brilliant affair And now that we have come to the parting of the ways we realize that these years have been the happiest and best of our lives We have formed friendships that will be permanent We have been more intima ely associated here than we can hope to be in any other school relationships We have happy memories of hours of pleasure spent in our beloved O H S that no other associations in the future can afford us So although we anticipate graduation we regret severing the many pleasant associations made during the years in our Alma lVlat r 'xxki of f1 'j '7 Q . . 1 . . For the first time. as far as is known, the lVlur-lVlur received an award in a national contest, being given third prize in its class at the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Convention held in New York City. A policy of constantly placing the resources of the organization at the disposal of the student body was pursued. On the first day of each term, a Hyer was published and distributed containing a program and other useful information. Blotters, schedules of teams, etc. have also been given out from time to time. lr is hoped that the student body will accord to the incoming staff the same aid and encouragement that it did to the present organization. ln any event, the lVlur-lVlur of 1927-'28 extends its sincere wishes for the future prosperity of its successor. The halfbacks showed up quite favorably and are responsible IH a large w y for the team s reputation for speed Captain Routcliffe and Fran is Fanning made up about the finest pair of scholastic ends In the state Bo h played ei ceptlonally hard and were the mamstays of the team Conway and Flnneva guards together with Elhot Smith Fleishman Wade and Belllnffer tackle formed a line that opposing teams found difficult to deal with Reed cente did Very well during the season Proud playing his nrst year at end showed lots of tight and presented several Good games Don Smith halfback was so unfortunate as to suffer a broken collar-bone during the first game, thus being disabled for practically the entire season. ln the opening game here, the Blue and White defeated Lowville by a score of 25-IZ. The game was more interestinv than the score would indicate. At one time the two teams were tied I2-l2. After trailing in the first half in a game played with Canastota in mid- summer weather Oswego threw off the lethargy caused by the heat, and defeated their opponents I9-6, with Kelley making two touchdowns and Looney one. Utica Free Academy bowed to the Oswego High 1910, making the third victory of the season. Kelley featured with his smashing line bucks, nobly assisted by l..ooney's end runs, and Frances slashes off tackle. The line played their best game of the season, with Captain Routcliffe outstanding. xi?-X ki 3 ,sw-fx? Y' '7 in l92 t .1 K t 84 52412252415 sg, .A N 0,4 T vim? - W K V 3 ca X l W-Y, f-AA . Jig! Zgaslwtirall The basketball team of l927 28 passed mto history as the finest ever to represent the Oswego High School Winning twenty out of twenty three games for the splendid average of 870 the Blue and White certainly estab lished an enviable record Despite a long and difficult schedule the team succeeded in surpassing the achievements of previous years by winning sixteen consecutive games and by making the most points ever scored in any one season The team accepted defeat only three times, twice at the hands of Central High of Syraucse and once from Rochester Aquinas. Due probably to the fast pace at which it played, and the long schedule, Oswego hit a mid-season slump from which it never entirely recovered its earlier form. It was as a result of this slump that the Blue and White was unable to keep its string of victories unbroken. Teamwork and close cooperation was essentially the greatest factor in the team's success. The comparative uniformity of the individual scoring record is an indisputable indication of the coordination of the players. Captain Kelly, center and forward, was largely responsible for the steady and consistent work of his team-mates, while he himself played a brand of basketball that earned him the reputation of being one of the finest scholastic centers in the state. Don Smith, forward and center, played sterling ball throughout the whole year. His height was invaluable in the scrimmages, and he worked very well as Kelley's running mate. Looney and Proud, guards, were unusually Q 5 4 Yi? L Q51 ssfefeeieeeifeasffef or 1 f e fast and scored constantly.
