These activities have also produced a less obvious record on the character and personality of the individual. The effort of the school has been to make the activities as beneficial and constructive as possible. The success of those efforts depends on the receptiveness of the individual. It is the responsibility of each of you to make sure your activities produce the best results. E. Anderson The students of our schools constitute the great potential force of our time. This book will serve to evaluate the education and guidance received here. It is our hope that you live wisely, serve ably, and lead successful lives. T. Loyd Traughber Mr. Anderson Principal 6... COACHES' NOTES 1954-55 has been the most successful, from the standpoint of sports, in the history of our school. Our football team was the schools first undefeated team, with 8 wins and 0 losses, and rank- ed high in the state, with 251 points scored to the opposisions' 19. Tremendous team spirit, co- operation, and good team balance resulted in this successful season. We were Fox Valley cham- pions, too, and have never finished lower than second in the last four years in our conference. Jack Walper was honored by being named to the Little All-State first team guard post. This is the first time such an honor has been achieved by an Oswegoan. Several other squad members ranked high on other all-star selections or received honorable mentions. Basketball was rather a disappointment, but the team's high point was its 63-62 win over Minooka, the school's First win over them in 14 years. Mr. Pickerill was badly overburdened with both wrestling and basketball, due to Mr. Hasenyager's bout with pneumonia and a month's absence from school. Prospects are good for next season, as only one regular, Dick Campbell, will be lost through graduation, and a marked improvemen in team play was shown the final month of the seasoon. Our wrestling team, the smallest representative in the state, took on all size schools and finished the regular season with 14 wins and 2 losses. In the sectional meet held at Elgin, three boys, Leonard Burkhart, Dave Gengler and Wayne Schillinger, won third place medals. Brad Smith a second place, and Alvin Wheeler was the sectional 103 pound champion. Alvin and Brad rep- resented our school at the state wrestling meet at Champaign and both came home State Charn- pions. Oswego finished fourth as a team in the state meet, with only two boys representing it. This is a tremendous accomplishment for any school of our size. The coaches would like to thank the boys responsible for such a successful year in athletics. This is a year we will long remember, and we hope better success is in store for your teams in the future. ,Q W 'Q' vw-- U V' ff A-565 119' Nr' aff' T Q Dick Campbell, Georgiann Kontos, if - Glenn Baker, King, Elaine Matile HOMECOMING courvr fmt, . F Y E Queen: Karla Foster, Brad Smith. ' ' es' ,fi Q ,Mk HOMECGMI G From October 14 to 16, the school was a scene of pep rallies, parades, a football game and dance. On Thursday night, October 14, many enthusiastic high schoolers turned out for the huge bonnre and snake dance. Coach Hasenyager and Coach Pickerill gave very inspiring talks to help pep up the boys. The Wel- come mat was rolled out for returning alumni who turned out to help cheer on their Alma Mater. Early Friday morning, busy decorators rolled out of bed to finish their Hoats in hopes of winning first place in the float contest. At 2:30 p.m. the parade moved slowly through town, its destination being the football field. The climax of the celebration was the dance at which the king and queen were crowned. l The Senior Class won the float con- test with O.H.S. Coaches Victory, a huge pink coach made from chicken wire, stuffed with pink sprayed nap- kins. The windows and lettering were of gold foil and the doors and huge wheels were trimmed with purple crepe paper. The coach rested upon an arrangement of purple paper. The Seniors are to be commended for their K ,Oi fine work on this excellent float. The Juniors came in second with their portrayal of We'll Lick 'Emf' Earlville was a peppermint ice cream cone being licked by a moving tongue of an Oswego football player. This was an outstanding and alluring float. ...,f, J, s tlv A very cute skunk resting on a bed of 75' uw' 'A 1, ,ai yr 4 t ' leaves was the Sophomore entry.
