THIRD ROW: John Maxson, Walter Holly, Arthur Clark, Edward McChesney, Douglas Matthews, Harlan Press, Robert Ockerman. All School Cast Presents Young Lincoln On Friday. January 31, 1958, an all school play, Young Lincoln , was presented under the direction of Mrs. Bosak. The play was written about the early life of America's one and only Abraham Lincoln. In this play, Lincoln, portrayed by EdwardMcChesney, has a romance with Ann Rutledge, played by Delores Austin. As Abe's romance was stressed, we saw how he planted the love of truth and justice among his fellow men. As the play began, it portrayed the scene of the death of Lincoln's mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, played by Ethel Downs, is surrounded by her son and daughter and a neighbor woman, portrayed by Robert Ockerman, Marilyn Dietze, and Gail Newton. Other characters who influenced and helped Lincoln to fame were James and Mrs. Rutledge, Martha, a servant, Mrs. Bennett Able, a neighborg Mary Owens, her niece, Mattie, a slave girl, John McNeil, Sam Hill, Jack Armstrong, and Malcolm Judd. THIRD ROW: Edward McChesney, Douglas Matthews, William Coyle, Donald Carpenter, Walter Holly, Dale Maxson. The Seniors Present Are You Mr. Butterworth? On Friday, November 8, 1957, the Senior Class presented their play, Are you Mr.Buttcrworth'? directed by Mrs. John Bosak. The setting takes place in the lobby of the Empire Hotel. Dan, the desk clerk, played by Walter Holly, is sorting mail, the telegraph boy, Herbert Austin, enters. He has a telegram for Mr. Butterworth. Dan rings for Tommy, a jaunty, carefree, bellhop, played by Denny Calhoun. Tommy begins paging Mr. Butterworth. Miss Arabella Van Cleve enters. She is atall, thin, hatchet-faced guest who is always fussing. The part is played by Barbara Taylor. Mr. Bashinsky, a jewelry salesman, played by Edward McChesney, arrives and the excitement begins. Somebody stole Mr. Bashinsky's sample case, which contains his diamonds. Mr. Bashinsky gets very excited and becomes suspicious of everyone. Helen Worth, really Helen Butterworth, played by Marilyn Maxson, enters the picture. Dan gets her a job working in the coffee shop, not knowing she is the daughter of the Mr. Butterworth , who has just bought the hotel but hasn't shown up to claim it. Mr. Bashinsky takes things into his own hands. He says he can't get any help from a one-horse detective, Maek,played by Douglas Matthews. Mack has a love affair with Virginia, a waitress in the coffee shop, played by Gail Iandrew. Mr. Bashinsky starts his searching for the thief by questioning the employees. He begins with Tommy and Kat, the young, attractive elevator operator, played by Cecelia Taylor. Sylvia, a show girl,Joan Maxson, causes jealousy between Mack and Virginia. The story comes to a close when Mrs. Benson, Delores Austin, finds a man coming in the back door to the coffee shop. To our amazement, the man proved to be Mr. Butterworth, played by John Maxson. He has Mr. Bashinsky's diamonds, which Katrinka, a maid, played by Deloris James, gave to him. At the close of the story, Dan and Helen are in the coffee shop. Dan proposes to Helen, and the mystery and romance of Are you Mr. Butterworth? , comes to a close. 62

SECOND ROW: Mrs. Graves, Paula Walley, Wanda Dunshie, Marjorie Smith, Joanne Lamphere, Janet Phillips, Annlee Cummings, Carolynn Perkins, Frances Hyde. THIRD ROW: Bertha May Schade, Helen Cutler, Eileen Gardiner, Harold Featherman, Rikki Zwirnbaum, Wanda Lyautey, Judy Perry, Gail Newton. The Juniors Present - Hillbilly Weddin' On April 25, 1958 the juniors, under the direction of Mrs. Graves, took us to a Hillbilly Weddin where we met Paw Belsnickle, portrayed by Jack Perkins, a man with a problem, rather six problems -- in the form of six unmarried daughters. Maw Belsnickle, played by Joanne Lanphere, elects Paw to get husbands for her two oldest daughters, Ceelie and Bonnie Mae, played by Frances Hyde and Janet Phillips. Paw gets his shotgun and decides to wing them, pick out the buckshot, and have them married to his daughters before they know what has happened. The plan is alright with Ceelie but Bonnie Mae protests the idea. In the midst of Paw's husband chasing, Ronald Maxwell, a medical student, and his aunt, played by Rikki Zwirnbaum and Carolynn Perkins, arrive at the Belsnickle's mountain cabin. Paw tries to get Ronald, but is unsuccessful. Two neighbors, Oohey and Chiz Upschlager Cmale and unmarriedb, played by Arthur Clark and James Dingman, decided that the hand- some stranger loose among the Va1ley's most attractive girls is a menace they must do away with. They set a trap and Paw unaware of their trap sets one too, and both sides are determined to use poor Ceelie as bait. It's all a merry mixup from there on! They have a bigger feud than anyone dreamedg Ceelie's pet rattlesnake escapes in the cabin, someone is bitten for pretends to bel and Paw finally forces Ronald to the altar with Ceelie. Just in the nick of time Bonnie Mae rescues Ronald, Ceelie finds a husband who really wants her and it's a happy ending for all concerned. To add to this riot of fun and laughter are the other four Belsnickle daughters, J uney Lou, Four, Five, and Six, played by Marjorie Smith, Paula Walley, Annlee Cummings, and Wanda Dunshie. To perform this riotous wedding ceremony, Harold Featherman as the Reverend and a band played by the cousins, which includes Lee Kellogg, Bertha May Schade, Claud Norton, Frank Bixby, Gail Newton, Judy Perry, Wanda Lyautey, Helen Cutler, and Eileen Gardiner add to the hilarity. 64
