BOYS - top to bottom: King John Beck, Tony Kaufman, Lanny Simerman, Steve King. The King and Queen and the court led off a dance. Dancing was enjoyed by everyone at the Sweetheart Dance. -6- Provide Future Memories The senior girls decorated the cafeteria for the Sweetheart Dance. Give him a chance fellows. Our own Beatles provided entertainment for the record hops and the Sweetheart Dance. Our record hops provided lots of entertainment. 7- Ballgames Prove To Be Exciting The Basketball games provided lots of excitement for everyone. Just Look! The Bears go up for another rebound. Is your donkey tired, Dave? School Days Monday mornings are usually busy as students buy lunch tickets. No, Connie, you can ' t take the caps off. Everyone enjoyed the assembly program that was presented by Vic Hyde. Organizational Activities The Robed Choir sang for the students in the cafeteria at Christmas time. The seniors finally received their long awaited pictures. Was it worth all the $ $? At Christmas the Senior Sunshine members wrapped cookies to take to the shut-ins. The FHA girls cleaned the trophy case as one of their projects during FHA week. 10 Around The School I wonder where she parked her broomstick??? Listen you guys, it ' s set to go off at 3:00. umA What do you mean bread and water? Just who do you think you are? We see that Tony makes full use of his study periods. -11- Time, patience, work, the desire and the ability to learn are essential if a student is to reach his goal. Our variety of academic courses are designed to contribute in every way possible for each student to reach this goal . Academic Mathematics- An Ever Growing Field Co-Sponsored by CITY MARKET Ossian, Indiana and DR. NEUENSCHWANDER Ossian, Indiana Lanny and Mr. FuUhart try to work _ one of the complicated determin- ants in College Algebra. Vernon solves a problem as Mr. Windmiller looks on. Mr. Fullhart explains the daily Arithmetic lesson to the Eighth grade. Our math program varies from General Math to Trig- onometry and College Algebra. The teachers do their best in teaching the students the eas- iest and most efficient way to complete the difficult com- putations. Awards in the Math Depart- ment were presented to Milton Gallmeyer for General Math, to Larry Stoppenhagen for Geometry, Danny Cotton for Algebra and to John Beck for higher Math. Co- Sponsored by MAHNENSMITH TRUCKING COMPANY Ossian, Indiana and STANDARD SERVICE STATION Ossian, Indiana The Seniors seem quite interested in their Business Arithmetic Class. 15- English + Literature Many Opportunities The students in English Literature are acting out one of Shakespeare ' s plays. Barbara Miller displays the poster she made in Latin Class. . Awards in the English Department were given to Scott Trenary for Freshman English, Ann Hunter for Sophomore English, Kathleen Thiele for Junior English, and Gwen Andes for Senior English. Mrs. Martin ' s seventh grade English class seems to be studying very hard. ENGLISH English is one of the basic requirements all through school. The type of course may vary from fundamental English to more complex speech and journalism, but whatever the course, it is very important to learn and be able to properly use the English Language. Students in English composition do research for end- of- semester term paper. I Vera Keller won the school speech contest. The awards in Latin were given to Mary Lou Thiele for Latin I and to Shari Pagels for Latin II. Co-Sponsored by DR. SHADDRY Ossian, Indiana HOWER TOOL GRINDING Ossian, Indiana Larry Stoppenhagen and Susan Grewe diagram a sentence on the black- board for Latin Class. 17 Science Arouses Our Interests Science, one of the most important high school subjects, begins with the fundamentals in General Science, then Biology, and finally into the more com- plex Chemistry and Physics. Our lab, the finest in the county and among the best in the entire state, promotes student interest in science and will also help later in college lab work. Awards in the Science Department were presented to Mary Lou Thiele for Biology and to Allen Hunter for Chemistry. Dale Gallmeyer is collecting leaves for his Biology collection. In Biology the stu- dents learn the anatomy of the human body. The World Around Us Past And Present Learning of our country ' s history and government en- ables us to become better citizens and to participate more and better in our own local government. The awards given in the Social Studies Depart- ment were given to Marsha Yaney for World History, David Martin for United States History, and Judy Werling tor benior aociai Studies. Miss Hoffman helps Jim with his World History. Mr. Kline points out a troubled continent to his United States History class. The Junior girls seem to have all of the answers for their shorthand assignment. Students must study hard for their Bookkeeping assignments. Mclntire, G. Andres. National Honor Society The Ossian High School chap- ter of the National Honor Society was chartered in 1961-62, and has become an inspirational goal for our students. Eleven new members were inducted into the chapter this year, three Seniors and eight Juniors. These students were selected on the basis of character, leadership, service, and scholarship. These four qualities are the virtues most fundamental in life and most useful in society. STANDING: President, John Beck; Vice- President, Danny Cotton. SEATED: Projects Chairman, jean Werling; Secretary- Treasurer, Janice Henry. 30 Student Council This was the second year for the Student Council. Miss Nola Amsler was chosen by the Council to be their adviser. The Student Council worked with the Faculty to choose the annual Christmas project of the school. It was decided to spend part of the mon- ey collected for a spotlight and part of it to support an orphan Chern Ming Cheng, in Hong Kong. They conducted several surveys of student opinions in regard to student affairs. The Student Council was also asked to help set up standards for the schol- astic awards to be given by the P.T.A. and to help determine what kinds of awards would be given.
