At this meeting Shirley Shaffer gave a report on the history of the Sunshine Society. The membership for the year totaled 74 girls and two sponsors, Mrs. Donaghy and Mrs. Coblentz In September, Bonnie Follis, Shirley Shaffer, Mrs. Donaghy and Mrs. Coblentz attended a sponsors and presidents luncheon held at the Marott Hotel in Indianapolis. The main activity for the month of October was the District Con- vention, which was held at Bippus with 15 members from Ossian's Chapter attending. Again this year members of the Sunshine Society decorated the trees in the front school lawn with Christmas tree lights. Also two trees were decorated in the assembly. The annual contribution was made to the Riley Fund, and the S. S. S. girls and sponsors aided in the collection of the 1953 March of Dimes. Some of the activities of the year were initiation of new members, pot-luck supper for the mothers and the mother-daughter reception with installation of new officers, which ended the year's activities. Le C744 The Ossian High School Cvlee Club began the year's musical activities by singing for the meeting of Superintendents and Principals at the Northeastern Indiana Teachers Association in Fort Wayne, October 23. The second formal appearance was at the Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, Indiana, on Sunday, November 23. The annual Christmas Vesper Concert took place in the gymnasium on Sunday, December Zl, at -1 o'clock and featured combined Glee Club and Junior Choir. On February 6, the Glee Club provided a short musical program in Fort Wayne for the Ten County Institute, and also participated on the same day in the District. Vocal Solo and Ensemble contests. Throughout the spring, the robed group and other members of music classes presented programs for service clubs and churches and school functions. The Junior Girls Twin Trio sang in various contests and also entertained for clubs and church organization meetings. The twirlers worked up new routines for some of the games. The Ossian Band combined with the Wells County Band presented their annual Spring Concert in April. Other performances included the annual school concerts, county tourney, and the Wells County Music Festival. The music played by the Band included classics, boogie-Woogie, marches, overtures, and semi-classics. The Band Club helped to encourage new members and to promote a better understanding between the Band and the school. The Band's appearance and performance at home games added much enthusiasm to the students and parents at these exhibitions. ROGER CARNES Our sixth man much of the season, Roger possesses special abilities that found him starting several games and making an especially good late season showing after a two week flu siege. MAX BAUMGARDNER A driving, deceptive, never-say-die type of player capable of ripping the tight game wide open, plus being a wonderful team player. KENT SPENCER By the end of the season he developed into a very capable replacement at either a forward or center spot, having a good set shot and rebounding well. LARRY HUNTER Alert to the highest degree, possessed with an intense desire to win, Peewee has furnished OHS with the other half of a guard combination that will take a back seat to no area competitors. VERLIN SCHERRER Deceptively fast and tricky, Verlin did a very good job pinch hitting at the guard spot and gained experience necessary to make him a sure fire bet for '53-54. BOB BRYAN In spite of his 5' 8 size, Bob is one of the best rebounders on the squad and has an excellent touch--garnering experience which will make him a very valuable boy in '53-54. .
