Qi as .L isbn' s x 'iw PHlHClPHl The work of the principal requires a great deal of training and experience. Mr. Bert Hodge has both, in addition to a fine sense of humor and fair play. Most of us see the principal only when we plan our schedule of courses or when we need a pass to classes after being absent. But he must do many other things to make it possible for us to live and work together well. To Mr. Hodge we owe much for the good morale at Ossian High. 'w --an 5 3 ' I K Q X, .,,. -X 'J a , fs. CLHSS Uf '50 PRESENTS JUHIUH PLHU lHE lIHlllPBEllS llllf llllllllllllu On April l and 2, l949, the juniors proudly presented a three-act farce-comedy called THE CAMPBELLS ARE COMlNG. THE CAMPBELLS ARE COMlNG is the story of the trials and tribulations of the Bran- nigans. Ma Brannigan iOpal Reed? and her two grandchildren, Dick tForrest Scherrer? and Betty lBessie Hooverl are worried about their sister, Kaye Uoyce Belll who has let college life spoil her. Kaye has broken her engagement to Jeff Scudder iArtl'..Jr Behningl, the home-town boy, and has become engaged to Kingston Campbell lLloyd Dawsonl, a superficial, sophisticated man- of-the-world who pretends to have more money than he has. When Kaye announces upon her return from college that Kingston and his mother Augusta Campbell iGloria Kumferl, the typical stage dowager type, are coming, Ma Brannigan impresses upon her family the fact that they must put on an act in order to prove to Mrs. Campbell that they are not rich people, Kaye left to visit a school chum, so they plot their revenge, in order to bring Kaye back to Jeff, Cyrus Schudder tHilbert Wittel is enlisted to act as an old codger who sparks Betty, Dick plays his part as a halt-wit who is engaged to Catalpa iMary Lou Oserl, the Brannigan's hillbilly maid, who is left to act perfectly natural. Catalpa's hillbilly father, Bildad Tapp lLeroy Petersl, is encouraged in his plan to spark Ma Brannigan, fightin' former sweetheart of Kaye's who is out to get Kingston's side. The Campbells arrive before Kaye's return, and trouble begin. With 'pyore un' dult'erated rnoonshine by mistake, and while drunk she con- fesses that she, Augusta, is a sister of Bildad Tapp, After that the Campbells decide to leave for home. Kaye finally sees the light and breaks her engagement to Kingston. After a little cave-man persuasion tactics at the hands of Jeff she once more becomes the same sweet Kaye of old, and once more becomes Jeff's fiancee. lnevitably, they all lived happily ever after. With Dorothy Schuhler and Janet Thomas as prompters, and under the very able direction of Mr. Gerwig, this play will long be remem- bered as one of the funniest ever to grace the O.H.S. stage.
