Class Poem of '46 CC011ri11ued! Audrey, nice with pretty curls, All three seems to fit together, Always a friend from day to day, She'll get through in all kinds of weather. McGee!--FibberP-No, it's Ray! ln '45 he was our vice-president, A basketball player, an all around guy, I-le makes Kingsland a pretty good resident! A sweet gal with a sense of humor, That's Thelda our farmer girl, All the Ossian boys try to date her, But she won't give one a whirl. A girl in our class who stays out of trouble, The bashful and shy Mary Reed, A very good worker and kind hearted too! She's a true loyal friend yes, indeed! A player for our Ossian bears, That's really what we call Roger! VVhen Orvil sees a teacher coming, He says, Brother, let's dodger her! Naomi Simerman is good at acting And is always up with the latest fad, A lot of boys have fallen for her. But who said that was bad! A girl of our class who is always neat And is a pretty strawberry blonde, Ruth never goes in for the Ossian boys, But a truer friend could never be found. She cuts a real Figure in sports, But always watches her calories, In future years you're sure to find That Eileen will draw big salaries. Our president is a busy guy- Iunior really gets things done, A thrilling figure in his basketball suit, Ossian girls all say, He's the one! A real blonde and loads of curls A baker and fine cook too, All the boys when seeking a wife Say, Bernice, will certainly do. A personality to charm all people, Talents too numerous to mention, Bernie will get a man that has succeeded, And never use old-age pension. A quiet girl with a busy manner, That's Eleanor, our typing whiz, She has a boy friend, we know, But she won't tell us who he is. She has a ring on her left linger, Our secretary of last year, She'll make a model wife some day, Yes, Erma, to Rex is most dear. A quiet fellow of our group, A guy who defies description, When any girl's heart is broken, Melvin will fill the prescription. The man who brought us out of debt, Dale knows how to finance money, I-le's really swell in everything And girls think Wilburn is a honey. An old lady in our senior play, But really so young and spry, Woodward has a favorite past time, That is, many clothes to buy. For a girl that is nice to know, A regular Iohnny on the spot, See Marjorie Wicklilfe, a pretty girl, We all sure like her a lot. Here's a guy whose a Casanova, And can really play basketball, Many hearts Lloyd has broken, Because for a kiss he doesn't ask-at-all! Many hearts she has caused to flutter, She studies and never does cease, She's popular and also well known, Patty's last, but certainly not least. Now, we might forget our old friend, From whom we did often borrow, But as the great Shakespeare has said, Parting is such sweet sorrow. Our trials might seem hard and rough, And the end looked for from sight. Welll grit our teeth, and do our best, Trust in God and do the right! By Thelda Phillips, Faye Elliott Phyllis Furthmiller

Looking Into the Future This is the year 1956. in the quiet little town of New York City, about 6:00 o'clock on an evening in Iune. VVe look in upon Mr. and Mrs. Dale XfVilburn, Mrs. NVilburn being our former classmate. Bernice Stoppenhagen. Dale has just told his wife that today he met two of his dearest and best friends, Melvin Werling and his wife. Charlotte Hammang and they decided to look up the remainder of the class of '-lo. The following Vllednesday our little group had chartered a plane and their pilot was to be lim Hower. As they traveled across the United States. they had to make a forced landing in lowa because of plane trouble. Upon landing they were en- countered by a bearded. bedraggled man who was selling eggs. To their surprise he turned out to be none other than Yernon Bultemeier. He told the group he had decided to be a bachelor and raise hogs and chickens. His house keeper and general advisor is Marjorie Wlicklilie. who lives across the road with her mother. and her trusting husband. Marvin Bauermeister. After saying good-bye to Vernon. they continue on their journey. On their way to California they passed over Reno: Dale jokingly said to Bernice that he hoped they would never have to stop there. ' Their next stop was Hollywood to refuel before they started on their long Hight across the ocean. XVhile they were in Hollywood. they decided to visit VVarner Bros. Studio. Once on the set they see Two-Gun Tony. our dashing romeo, Gene Aultry with his co-star. Margie Carver patiently waiting at the door of their shack for her lover to come home. As the movie ends. the hero comes dashing up on a big white stallion. They had a nice visit with Margie and Gene. and they are told that they will hnd Lyle Cotton in the basement. Vvlhen they started toward the basement, they heard someone shouting and turned to discover Lyle Cotton. the janitor of the studio. Lyle tells them that he had a big disappoinment in love and lost all of his ability to sing love songs. He would not tell them who caused this disappointment, but from his conversation they took it that it was Charlotte Hamman. who married a sailor two years after her graduation from high school. The sailor who was none other than Melvin Vlferling. who was a veteran of ten years of naval service. Having ten minutes before they were to leave for the Hawaiian Islands. they left for the airport. Meeting Melvin and Charlotte. they took off for Pearl Harbor, a famous place they remembered from Vllorld War ll. Vylhen they arrived. they saw a lonely home where they thought they could take time to rest. As they walked to the house. they saw three dirty-faced. tow-headed children playing in the mud beside the house. The door was opened and they were greeted by Iunior Springer and his wife Naomi Vv'oodward. They remained there for the night. The next morning they started for Norinanton. Australia, where they met Gene Bell taking care of kangaroos in the zoo and later found out that Eleanor VVerling was also working in the zoo selling peanuts. They told them two more of their classmates are now residing in Borneo. Page 17
