A credit to our school through his abilities and skills, Mr. Connors is a well-known fig- ure around Osseo High School. His white lab coat and his red pencil are emblems of his teaching easily recognized by any past or pres- ent student of biology. Under his guiding ideas and helpful hints we, the class of '65, have , grown to realize our part in the world of to- morrow. Under the baton of Mr. Kowalke, students of Osseo High School learn the meaning of in- strumental music and the expression of it. He is a musical symbol in the lives of students of today and yesterday. Because of his devotion we, the class of '65, dedicate our yearbook to him. f x K E X 3-: XQg NV , 9b x , r q Egg E'E i Q x FACULTY. . . . .ll SPECIAL SERVICES. . . . . .20 STUDENTS SENIORS ................ 26 JUNIORS...............46 SOPHOMORES ........... 56 SPECIAL EVENTS ............. 68 ORGANIZATIONS. . . . . . . . . . . .82 SPORTS .................... Hess. . . .CAUGHT IN THE MOOD 7O HOMEC OMING At Osseo, Homecoming was not an ordinary event. Weeks of planning and anticipation heralded its arrival. First on the agenda was Thursd ay night's festivities. The cheerleaders sparked a pep fest in the gym which was followed by a student variety show. Highlights of this show were a drum solo by Brian Trowbridge, an appearance by the St. Paul Drum and Bugle Corps, directed by junior Mike Schwinden, and folk tunes by the Highlanders. Sharon Stockler and Dave Hess served. as emcees for both the variety show and coronation. Final tension mounted as each candidate received a foil-Covered rose. Jill Dorn opened hers to find a white rose, symbolic only to Her Majesty. Gus performed honorary duties by placing the crown on Jill's head. On Friday afternoon, the band led a colorful parade down mainstreet Osseo. The class of 1966 won first place in the float division. Homecoming night, the Orioles trounced St. Paul Park by a 21-0 margin. Following the game, The Torqueys provided music for the Homecoming Dance. THE HIGHLANDERS sing. i GUS LENDS his services. This is an indication of the increased interest in dramatics by students . The fall play, Thunder on Sycamore Street, was well-supported by the stu- dent body. Approximately sixty students tried out for the various parts . During the winter months, students of Mrs. Sorom's dramatics class prepared The Dancing Princesses for presentation to the elementary schools . The council carried on many ac- tivities during the year, those being, the Homecoming parade, Sno-Days, and the presentation of a $100 scholarship. With the co-operation of the OHS faculty, the council was able to revive the Faculty Basketball Game. The council served the school by regulating the dress code, dances and operated a bookstore. The ORIOLE staff, a group of Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, devote a large portion of their time every week to work on setting up picture schedules to more brainracking things like writing COpy, outlines, and headlines. Often times these students sacrifice sleep and miss assignments to make a deadline on time. The members of the staff are just as important as the editors, who make most of the decisions. Without peOple to get ads, take pictures, and other time -consuming jobs, the ORIOLE would not get completed. The ORIOLE staff is very independent and creative group where individual thinking is encouraged. Upon passing local eliminations and screening by the New York office, Nancy Wadsworth was sent to Finland for the summer. Likeable Guiseppe, Gus Daglio from Switzerland became our student in return. To improve the skills in the use of gymnastic competition was the main objective of this club. Tryouts were held in the fall of the school year for admittance in the club. The membership was limited to thirty girls. These girls had to give at least one demonstration during the year. The Oriole-harriers also added the Metro-Invitational title and placed fourth in the Swain Invitational, competing against twenty- five teams, including the best in the state. The three top runners this season were Curt Dockter, Ken Rasmussen, and Paul Formo. Dockter took the individual crown in the Skyline, District, and Region meets and placed fifth in the State meet as Osseo's only representative. Much of the credit for the team's success must go to Coach Deane, whose enthusiasm for cross-country has made Osseo a major power in this great sport. OHS RESERVES anxiously view another Oriole victory. 112 FOOTBALL Osseo gridders, with twelve returning lettermen, battled to their third straight conference title. Early season predictions forcasted an average season, but the team fought hard against these optimisms and eventually proved the predictions wrong. The 1964 team was lead by tri-captains Don Larson, Jim Locke, and Don Zachow. A strong defensive team never allowed its opponents to gain more than 100 yards in a game, and had only 47 points scored upon them. The offensive team averaged 260 yards per game and t0- taled 1770 yards in the whole season. The Orioles had won 15 consecutive games when Fridley snapped the winning streak by a mere 13-12 score. Except for this loner, the team remained undefeated in conference play, thereby capturing the conference title. Success can be partly attributed to five a11-conference players. They were, Don Larson, Randy Stetler, Mike Torgesen, Dave Tripp, and Don Zachow. Don Larson was voted the most valuable player of the year by his teammates. Next year the returning gridders must rely on the services of the 1965 co-captains Randy Stetler and Cliff Posthumus. 053 E0 TO FAM E , ' '7. W 2' L , 1 l ' ' ,-' ENCOURAGEMENT to the team. 2 . Ll U? STRATEGY The 1965 Oriole basketball team relied upon a varied offense and a defense to confuse their oppo- nents. The offense worked off a number of plays involving screens and a great number of variations. The Oriole defense was one of the teast stronger points throughout the year. The team added'several various zone type defenses to the basic man-to- man . Coach Story also planned on different press- type defenses for use in the later stages of quarters and halves. Probably the biggest factor towards the team's successful seasonwas its height and rebounding power. This year's team pulled off many more rebounds than its opponents. As a result of the team's efforts, Osseo's basketball reputation became even greater in the Skyline Conference and through- out the area. CO-CAPTAINS Dave Hess and Larry Anderson confer with Coach Story. MATMEN DEVELOP TENACITY As individuals, OHS wrestlers must rely on themselves for the necessary strength and skill to win over their opponents, but as a team they rely on each other for encouragement and support. To keep in shape for their performances wres- tlers put in hours of practice each week. Under the coaching skills of Mr. Mueller, this year's team put forth its best efforts and was rewarded by a good Season's record . JUNIOR GRAPPLER Randy Stetler, A good measure of the team's skill is the crowd 355313;: powerful how on hls of spectators. This year's team, more than ever ' before, drew some of the best crowds Osseo wres- tling has ever seen. ANXIETY AND CONFIDENCE show in the eyes of teammates and Coach Mueller. Starting this year with a nucleus of four A Class men, the Osseo Gymnastics team has built up a new squad. The '65 squad was composed of A Class men Larry Edens, captain, Gorden Isaehsen, Bob Van Horn, and Larry Watson, with new and B Class mem- bers rounding out the squad. Coach Jackson worked very hard getting the team into shape for the rough season. Together with an improved schedule and much hard work, the team did very well this year, placing high in the newly formed Skyline Con- ference. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT 1P1 GYMNASTICS, BOTTOM ROW: D.
