We have come to the end of our high school days, And now we must bid you adieu. Our years at Osseo have quickly passed And now that our work is through, The mem'ries of Osseo will never fade, Nor will our friends so true, For each will leave a part of him, Within these walls we knew. Please remember us dear old Osseo High We leave this thought with you, Climb though the rocks be rugged and steep, A watch word in all that you do. This motto will guide the path we choose, In years which follow this night, And our mem'ries of Lincoln tho' dimmed by tears, Shall be our guiding light. Class Flower: White Rose MASS HISTIIHY Four years ago we started on the largest venture of our lives, or so it seemed then. After much anticipation and excitement, summer had passed and school opened for another year, but for ps this was different. This was the first day of our high school ife. Sixty brave students entered Lincoln Hill High School as fresh- men in the fall of 1949. Those who entered were Maynard Vold, Jerald Johnson, Dale Amundson, Glenn Vold, Dale Johnson, War- ren Butek, Darrell Fitch, Eldor Henning, Orville Johnson, Rob- ert Otto, Richard Wadsworth, John Berens, Gary Swenson, Char- lotte Nelson, Verna Sell, Colleen Hudson, Jane Olia, Collen Hein, Janice Anderson, Virginia Gullard, Charlotte Steen, Jeannette Anderson, Leah Ray Hein, Joann Brown, Mavis Peterson, Sylvia Nokelby, Gary Olson, Eldon Gunderson, John Barnhardt, Dennis Johnson, Martin Sell, Roger Christianson, Larry Larson, Nor- man Stuber, Donald Olson, Ivan Peterson, Robert Rongstad, La- verne Martin, Philip Scheuermann, Roger Hass, Billy Baum, Alva Sandler, Emelia Maug, Louise Porter, Evelyn Torpen, Nanette Olson, Loetta Ross, Janice Gunderson, Yvonne Hintz, Phyllis Matz, Marie Goss, Grace Scheuermann, Lyman Gunem, Larry Caucutt, Barbara Lowe, Ross Fiedler, and Alyce Ivers, Gordon Douglas, Eugene Bauer, Buck Bauer, and Warren McBride joined our class the second semester. We chose as our class officers, Ross Fiedler, president, Lar- ry Caucutt, vice presidentg Barbara Lowe, secretary, and Alyce Ivers, treasurer. Mr. Olson and Mrs. Wallace were our class advisors. As freshmen we were treated in a most peculiar manner dur- ing the first few weeks of school. The sophomores seemed to have no mercy on us. Since then we have had the opportunity to turn our vengeance on the present juniors. There is no need to remind everyone of the odd things we did as freshmen, for every- one remembers. Our school days continued to be more interesting as we began havin parties, ball games, singing in the choir, an belonging to schoo1 activities. On Sept. 5, 1950, we returned as sophomores, with 54 mem- bers in our class. Two new members, John Brevik, and Eugene Norby, joined our class this year. Those who failed to return with us were John Barnhardt, Buck Bauer, Raymond Bratsven, Marie Goss, Dennis Johnson, Orville Johnson, Elgart Miske, Martin Sell, Evelyn Torpen, and Richard Wadsworth. Robert Rongstad was chosen as our class president for this year. Other officers were Barbara Lowe, vice president, Louise Porter, secretary, and Joann Brown, treasurer. Mr. Herum and Mr. Bolander acted as our advisors. At last we could express our superiority over the freshmen. We had the privilege of initiating them on Sept. Z7. As sophomores we were active in nearly all the school activi- ties. We also had members in band, choir, and the various clubs. We enrolled as Juniors in the fall of 1951. At last we were upperclassmen! Of course we still had to look up to the seniors, but we had two classes looking up to us. Our junior class officers were Ross Fiedler, president, Joann Brown, vice president, Phyllis Matz, secretary, and Don Olson, treasurer. Mrs. Ward and Miss Vander Kamp served as our ad- visors. Along with the junior year came many extra things to do. One of the big events was the class play, Who Wouldn't Be Crazy, directed by Miss A. Vander Kamp on November ninth. The other highlight was the Junior Prom April 21, under the setting Song of the Island. Darrell Fitch and Alyce lvers reigned as king and queen. Their attendants were Ross Fiedler, Toni Hudson, Dale Johnson, Mavis Peterson, Don Olson, Phyllis Matz, Robert Rong- stad and Barbara Lowe. The music was by Jimm Knight. This was the year we had been waiting for. Our senior year had come at last. The course of our study was much different and very crowded with the other extra-curricular activities. Our senior class had 48 members. Ronald Vradenburg, Leah Ray Hein, and Eugene Bauer did not return. During the year Roger Christianson, John Brevik, and Stanley Vradenburg dropped out. Mr. Johnson was our class advisor. Class officers were Ross Fiedler, president, Louise Porter, vice president, Joann Brown, secretary, and Alyce lvers, treasurer. The senior class play, The Wailin Shadows was presented April 24. Miss Vander Kamp was our firector. The end of our senior year and high school life drew closer each day. Class night was held May 15, and Baccalaureate ser- vices May 17. lt was on Commencement, May 21, that we real- ized the truth of our motto, Climb Though the Rocks be Rugged. Not only have the last four years taught us a great deal of valuable information to prepare us for our responsibility as adults, but more important than that we have learned to co-operate so that we can take our place in this ever changing world. RSM-64' .Mi .,.g,, LA LL c ss wi X When Grandma Jones, alias the Senior Class of 1953, was a youncg girl she consulted a fortune teller who informed her that her eath would occur on May 21, 1953. Due to her superstitions, she decided to draw up her last Will and Testament with the no- Eoflious law firm of Crooks-, Crooks, and Crooks, which reads as o ows: I, Dale Amundson, will my ability to milk cows to Dick Lee. To Anthony Gizewski and Sonja Hegg, we, Bill Baum and Grace Scheuermann, will our tremendous height, so they will be as tall as us in their senior year. Warren Butek wills his knowledge of automobiles to Mr. Olson so he can keep his Ford in running condition. Larry Caucutt feels as though Arlan Carter needs some of his acting ability, that is around girls. Ross Fiedler thinks Russ Yarnall might find some of his hints helpful when taking out his many girlfriends. Augusta has proved to be quite interesting to many of our Os- seo boys. Bettye is eager to provide other young people with some of the fun she herself missed. With the assistance of some of her young friends she starts to convert the haunted house into a Teen Club. The place is the hideout of a gang of smugglers and they attempt to frighten the young people away. Ghostly arms threaten, articles mysteriously disappear, unearthly forms cavort outside the window, and a murdered U. S. customs officer is found stuffed in the refrigerator. O.P. politician, in my travels around the U. S. trying to ge't a higher old age pension for Senator 'I afLt, find that in this year 1963 A.D. , many of my former classmates are doing various things. My first stop was at the Donald Olson farm, where I had a chat with Don and his better half, the former Helen Larson. Two new buildings attracted my attention in Allen as I was motoring through. I was told later that one was the Allen School of Higher Learning and Louise Porter is the Superintendent. The other one was the Allen Clinic, where Yvonne Hintz and Colleen Hein are the head nurses. Foster was buzzing with excitement when I arrived there. I saw Colleen Hudson, now Mrs. Harold Peterson, trying to get her six children out of the tavern where Harry, her husband works. I had a short visit with Barbara Lowe. She is now owner of Mae'.s Eat Shop, and attracts many handsome customers. No--she isn't married yet, but June is awfully close. The way Barb stated it, Phyllis is still trying to change Matz to Vradenburg. Oh, before I forget I better tell you that the former Jane Olia is teaching high school in Foster. Jane, who resolved that she wouldn't marry, never fulfilled her promise. Much to my surprise, Brackett has enlarged its city limits mainly due to the new school called the Norby School for Amateur Flyers. Eugene seems to do quite well now, when there aren't so many girls to pester him. He is also the proud inventor of the Norby Special airplane. Roger Haas has also chosen to make Brachett his home. He raises rabbits on a little farm at the edge of town, to supply the rabbits for the town people. Eldor Henning is running a large chicken ranch. I understood Eldor to say that he and the former Dorothy Barneson are getting along fine. He takes care of the chickens and she tends to all the little hen-nings. While in Brackett I bought a new car, called the Butek Special . This car is guaranteed to go 175 miles per hour. I bought the car from Warren Butek, chief executive of the company. I had some urgent business to take care of in Osseo, so I turned my car around and headed back to the old familiar town. As I drove into town a new business attracted my attention. It was the Anderson and Anderson Baby Sitting Agency, Janice and Jeanette Anderson, Prop. Jeanette seems to be doing more baby sitting, because Janice spends much of her time looking for Larry Losness. The Red and White Store was having its grand opening. Ivan Peterson and the former Shirley Larson are the proud owners. Shirley is putting in a lot of overtime taking care of their twin girls, Kate, and Duplicate. While I was looking over the new store I saw Dale Amundson. He said he does some farming, between polish jobs on his black '48 Plymouth. I also stopped to talk to Mrs. George Matchey. She was Mavis Peterson as we knew her back in O. H. S. Mavis works very hard as a mother to her four gorgeous children and wife to her gorgeous husband, George, but that doesn't keep her from having afternoon coffee with her neighbor Mrs. Dick Tomter, formerly Alyce Ivers. Alyce also works very hard. She is teaching her six musically inclined children to sing like their father, Dick. Charlotte Steen is another neighbor of Mrs. Matchey. Poor Charlotte is having her troubles. The main one now is which should she choose, the Myren or Hagen Family? Osseo has won fame from its new Standard Station. It is the largest gas station in the world. It is operated by Robert Rong- sta . Vonnie Rahl is his head secretary. Amy Maug, now Mrs. Kenny Olson, has also chosen to live in Osseo. Her four little Ol'-sons , and one little Ol'-daughter keep her busy most of the day. Ross Fiedler has just arrived from New York City. He said that he decided to leave the milling throng in New York, and throng around the mill for a few years. Ross is now president of the Osseo Feed Mill and his wife, the former Joanne Anderson, gives him encouraging cheers from the side lines. Joann Brown is still the telephone operator. Ten years hasn't changed that old familiar number please and are you through . She is still the same Jo with many boys on the line. The Four Musketeers , Janice Gunderson, Virginia Gullar, Nannette Olson, and Sylvia Nokleby are still playing the field. Augusta still seems to have more opportunities than Osseo. Two of our classmates, Glenn Vold and Darrell Fitch have gone in for professional sports. Glenn is pitching for the Chicago Cubs, while Arlene Koxlien cheers from the side lines. Fitch is playing basketball for the Minneapolis Lakers. During' the off season he goes back to Augusta to see his best girl. As I approached the corner of 7th and Main, I saw a young girl selling books. As I got closer I recognized her as Grace Scheuer- mann. Grace is still having trouble with her boy friends, so to comfort her broken heart, she writes poetry. Osseo has another new enterprise on the edge of town. The owner is Verna Sell, who makes good apple pies like mother used to make. She is looking for some handsome young salesman to sell Sells' Pies. fAnyone interested, please call 2-8-1 apple, be- tween 7-5 o'clock or 8-1-Z green, evenings., A few of my classmates settled in Golden Valley. So I went out that way to see who I could find. I saw Gary Olson as I was going past the cheese factory. Gary is looking for an eligible young lady. He is well set in funds now that he is the owner of his own cheese factory. Gary said that Mrs. Dale Hanson, Charlotte Nelson before she was married, has a lovely new home. She spends a lot of her time tutoring her two young tooters to toot the flute like she use to. Larry Larson is another Golden Valley set- tler. He owns a Ford Garage near the cheese factory, and in his spare time, when he isn't courting his girl friend, he hauls milk for Gary. The two Johnsons in our class, Jerry and Dale, have gotten positions as coach. Jerry is coaching his wife Gloria and their three little sons how to drive a Model A, and Dale is coaching football at Augusta High School. His wife, formerly Sharon Kling, cheers his team to victory every game. Maynard Vold is running his own farm, but don't think that thats all he runs. He told me that he runs his '38 Chev, all day, but it still hasn't moved since he threatened to junk it back in 1953. Robert Otto has been picked as outstanding Game Warden of 1963. Bob is now employed in Eau Claire County. Being that I had to report back to Washington D. C. , I decided to plan my trip a little early so I could do some more visiting on the way. I sold my car and boarded the train. As the train pulled into the station in Chicago, I spotted Loetta Ross. She and I must have talked for hours. Anyway, the train pulled out without me. Loetta said she is very happily married and she likes Illinois very well, although she misses Augusta once in a while. Lyman Gun- em, now a resident of Illinois has won fame throughout that state as champion skiier. He is president of the Ski Club in Crystal Lake. Jane Heath is his wife. As my train rolled into New York City, many large factories attracted my attention, especially the one that had a large sign on it. MARTIN MANUFACTURING CO. -- WE MANUFACTURE MORE NOTHING THAN ANY COMPANY. When I ot off the train I found this company. I took the elevator to the ofgice floor. That amazing elevator has three speeds, slow, slower, and stop. I met Laverne coming from his office. We had a very interesting conversation. We talked mostly about New York, the shows on Broadway, -- Delia-- the weather, -- Delia-- the business, and we talked about Delia. Larry Caucutt has his name in lights on Broadway. He is the owner of the largest puppet show, and his newest performance is his experiences in Osseo High School. I went down to the docks, one afternoon and I saw Bill Baum boarding the ship. I talked to him just before he left. He was re- turning to Australia where he owns a sheep ranch. Bill said that it is the largest ranch in the world, but I just wonder if he was trying to pull the wool over my eyes. I am back in Washington D. C. now, with my job fniished with very encouraging results. Walking down 5th Street I met Norman Stuber. Norman has risen to a great height as he is head of the Department of Agriculture. Well, I guess that about takes care of all the students in the class of 1953, so I better close now or else this letter will have Eljean H. . Helen N. . Barbara H. . Joann I. . Dale not only has accurate with his passes but was a crisp blocker, as well. We are going to miss his size and experience but his spirit is what is going to leave a gap that will be almost impossible to fill. Robert Rongstad played every position, that he was called upon to play, to the best of his ability. His spirit and drive made him one of the most dan erous backs in the conference. Bob is the type of player we Ixate to lose and our opposition heaves a sigh of relief at his graduation. Bob will be playing a fine grade of football for some school next year, we regret it will not be for Osseo. Darrell Fitch played fullback and end and did the team kick- ing. We sure will need and long for sixty yard punts by Fitch next year. His running improved with every game and w en the season ended he was a fine back. Eldor Henning held downa tackle slot to a great deal of dis- comfort to our opponents. We will miss Eldor's size and ood humor next year and if he applies the same zeal to everytI1ing pci does, that he did in athletics he will be a great success in 1 e. Donald Olson was one ot the finest defensive ends in the con- ference. When Don was called upon to play offensive end he did a very creditable job. His efficiency as a defensive end made it difficult for us to use him as a scoring end. Don lacked size but made up for it in heart. Lyman Gunem played halfback. He came out in his senior year and was determined to play football. This determination ept him outfor football for a whole bruising seasong we wished that Lyznan would have reported in his earlier years. His best game was the Whitehall game. GaryOlson was another senior who reported. Gary lacked size and experience but not courage. He played tackle and guard and caused many a bigger player troubles. fire Standing: Darrell F. , Dale I. , Eldor H. , Glenn V. , Dick A. , Larry L. , Robert R Charles O. , Bruce D. , Andy G.
