Much anxiety could be seen on our faces for suddenly our lives had become serious and purpose- ful. Ahead of us lay four years of struggle and toil. Of cour- se no one had told us of the embarrassing confusion we would encounter the first few weeks or the distainful heckling of the sophomores before we finally adjusted ourselves to become part of the student body. Nevertheless, our influence was soon to be felt in the school. Those enrolled were Roger Baglien, Merri Barber, Marvin Bischoff, Dorothy Barneson, Dale Boernke, Eleanor Bratsven, Raymond Bratsven, John Brevik, James Britten, James R Call, Janice Castad, Gail Christ, Patricia Crowe, Helen Douglas, Robert Durst, Everett Fox, Albert Frase, Donald Gilbertson, Ronald Goetsch, Albert Gunem, John Hagen, William Jul Hagen, Ardell Hanson, Beverly Harriman, Audrey Hudson, Shirley Isom, Charles Jacohson, Alvin Johnson, Carlee Johnson, Orville Johnson, Robert Johnson, Howard Kittleson, Doreen Krienke, Gordon Larson, Bonie Lowe, Nancy Martinson, Dorothy McPeake, Connie Miller, Milburn Myers, Gladys Nelson, Dale Olson, Arlene Olson, Lester Peet, Eldon Rau, Helen Severson, Marie Smith, Donald Stewart, Marcel Thema, Ronald Thomley, and Margaret Varnall. During the year Raymond Bratsven, Everett Fox, Orville Johnson, Gordon Larson, and James Britten left us but we later welcomed Lauretta Benner to our group. For our class officers we chose Ronald Thomley, president, Alvin Johnson, vice-presidentg Janice Castad, secretary, and Shirley Isom, treasurer, Mr, Westlund and Mr. Brecklin were our advisors. We cou1dn't side track our initiation so on October 6th we spent a day of misery. That evening the sophomores made us perform various stunts on the stage for their enjoyment. Afterwards they had a party for us. We also had a return party for them February End. While we were yet freshmen we had the honor of having Shirley Isom chosen as Home Coming Queen. l In l9h9 the same group of students returned but how changed they were! As laughing, gay sophomores we felt the world was meant for us alone. How wicked but delightful we felt in har- assing that new crop of freshmen. We found that Ronald Anderson Blair Badker, Barvara Brown, Douglas DeGrasse, Maynard Gran, Orlin Larson, and Jerome Nix had joined us. Those who didn't return in the fall or left us during the year were Barbara Brown John Brevik, Eldon Rau, and Ronald Goetsch. The freshmen in- itiation, that delightful day, took p1ace on Octbber 10th. Even after all we did to them the freshmen gave us a return party a few weeks later. Those who led the class this year were Robert Johnson, as president, Dale Olson, Vice-president, Dorothy McPeake, secretary, and Shirley Isom, treasurer. Mr. Herum served as our advisor. P The Junior year found us a more considerate, thoughtful group with the realization that we had much knowledge yet to gain. This year held our two big events-- the Junior-Senior Prom, April 20th, and the Class Play, March End. Bob Johnson and Merri Barber reigned as King and Queen of the prom with Albert Gunem and Eleanor Bratsven, Howard Kittleson and Dorothy MoPeake, Ronald Thomley and Shirley Isom, and Marcel Thema and Marie Smith as their attendents. The theme nSomewhere Over the Rainbow was carried out by a rainbow across the hall with a pot of gold at one end and a castle at the other. Dancing was to the music of 'Jimmy Knight and his orchestra. Mummy and the Mumps' was the name of our three act comedys Those who joined our ranks this year were Sally Helgerson and Gloria Scheuermann, but our group was made smaller by the absence of Dale Boernke, Albert Frase, Oarlee Johnson, Bonie Lowe, Connie Miller, Dale Olson, and Helen Severson. Mrs. Ward and Miss G, Vander Kamp were our advisors. The officers were James Call, president, Alvin Johnson, vice-president, Shirley Isom, secretary, and Beverly Harriman, treasurer. At last--the long awaited senior year. The year of dignity and importance with that magical thing called superiority over our under-class-men. There was so much to take up our thne such as ordering gowns, invitations, announcements, having our pictures taken, and all those extra things. To help us through the confusion we chose Marvin Bischoff asypresidentg Alvin Johnson, vice-presidentg Dorothy McPeake, ysecretaryg and Marie Smith, treasurer. Mr. Johnson was our advisor. Our class was increased by Russell Dean and Dean Claflin. Later Russell Dean, Beverly Harriman, and Blair Badker left us. I guess we'll all remember the trip to Eau Claire to see Macbeth and all the fun we had with the measles. The seniors also presented their class play on May 9, under the direction of Miss G. Vander Kamp. Now we end our days at Lincoln Hill High with its many happy memories and warm friendships and QQ forth with the motto Not at the Top, But Climbing. v 14 A ll ii? i 1 my ,' fbi Q ft M A, -Sz 4 A filass Prnphzrg The year is 1962 and I have just completed my survey of the class of 1952 and I must say the findings are very good. Let us start with the senior class president, Marvin Bischoff. I find Marvin an excellent farmer now that he has Ellen K. at home and does not spend so much time in Fall Creek. While I am in the neighborhood, I might as well look in on the rest. y I find Dorothy Barneson the Director of the National Reducing Plan, all work and no play. l Douglas DeGrasse is spending his time sleeping and making the former Audrey Hudson, who is head nurse in the Mum s isolation ward at the Foster Hospital, work for her Cand his? living. Lester Peet is still floating around looking for work--that is, when he isn't reading comic books. Gloria Scheuermann is the author of a new best seller based on her experiences in Jerry's Model NAV, p Marcel Thema, I find, has the former Yvonne H, as a task master, She keeps him occupied as mechanic most of the time, all tho once in a while he catches up on the sleep he lost in his senior year. Marie Smith and Margaret Yarnall are two very efficient nurses in the new hospital at Foster ahd are still waiting for their rich, tall, dark, and handsome patientL ' 4 Bob Durst is working overtime to get enough to pay for the luxury tax on a sparkler. m Merri Barber is now Mrs. Ivers and is doing a good job offbe- ing a teacher to fill in the time whenIAde is in the Navy. Albert Gunem is selling the new Streamlined, Super Deluxe, Eleetline, Super powered, horseless'carriage.- A Pat Crowe, Dorothy McPeake and Eleanor Bratsven are still waiting for their Tom, Dick, and Harry to pick them up when they are hitch-hiking home from a dance.1 Billy Myers is doing double duty as a champion skier and as the head baker in his new bakery. I ' I find Doreen Krienke head fudge maker in an Old Maids Home. Donald Stewart has found the perfict helpmate'and has decided between Eau Claire, Augusta, Osseo, and Stru with the victory going to Whitehall. I I Gladys Nelson and Arlene Olson are so popular as knitting in- structors that they are turning down students for their new knitting school. y Ronnie Anderson is busy helping hislDad in the Electric bus- iness--part time, that is-the other part is spent cruising around looking for his perfict help mate. Helen Douglas is a very efficient librarian at the Osseo , library and has gained national fame--who wouldn't after all the hours she spent in the library in high school. Ardell Hanson, I find, is capitalizing on his ability to play the bass horn as he is now playing in a new but famous band V called 'The Blatters. V. ' 16A . , -V l 1 John Hagen has Phyllis M. at home to help him on his large, well kept farm. Janice Castad is Mrs. Stan Vold and she is having a lot of trouble getting her kids to help her pick strawberries. Gail Christ has a good farm in Hale that is well stocked ' with Herefords. I hear Charlotte Steen is the head boss now. Jul Hagen and Sally Helgerson are a happy couple farming in Hale. Sally's biggest worry is to keep her twelve kids out of the pig pen. ' Orlin Larson is the inventor and producer of the stream- lined super effective spittball which-is sold under the brand name of Gle. Charles Jacobson has moved hack to the farm as there are no 0le's bigger than he in the neighborhood. He has run into some difficulty when he has worked with people with the name Ole. Howard Kittleson has stopped going to Augusta and is now engaged in farming and is busy keeping the boss happy. Donald Gilbertson is the new but efficient National Secre- tary of the FFA, but he still tries to get a little farming done on the side. Roger Eaglien is rapidly acquiring a family'to help pick his strawberries and take care of his hens. To find the rest of the class I must do some hopping around. Lauretta Fenner is busily occupied as Mrs. Rosman and caring for her four little Rosmenfs. Dean Claflin is still looking for his easy job. He's tried all sorts and now he's trying his hand at being a pool hall op- erator. He has the honor of being unbeaten. Robert Johnson is the valuable center of the Minneapolis Lakers and has just set a new national record for average points per game. James Call is the Secretary of the DHIA in Madison with Mrs. Leah Ray Call as his full time personal secretary. Alvin Johnson is the head buyer for Swift and Company in Chicago with Edith N. busy keeping their kids out of the stock yards. Nancy Martinson is the featured pianist for the Philharmonic Orchestra playing in New York, Ronnie Thomley is also in the wor-1d's largest city doing a grand job singing at all of the high social events. He recently sang for the President of the United States. The former Shirley Isom also was complibnted by the President as she is Ronnie's efficient and capable housekeeper. 17 Glass will We the class of '52 of Lincoln Hill High, Thirteenth and Francis, City of Osseo, Town o Corner of f Su ner, County of Trempealeau, State of Wisconsin, the Western Hemisphere of the world, East of the Sun, and West of the Moon, sound mind call you together to listen to our being of sane and last will and testament and to receive these gifts we bestow unto you. As Slim Higganbottom fRonnie Thomleyl the proprietor of the hotel and tender of the beacon, sits singing his mournful song, the door bursts open, and Ben Lawrence Merry Johnson! enters, startling him. It is pouring rain. Bridges are flooded. Soon the roads will be closed, shutting off all communication to the towns be- yond, But that means business for Slit. His first customer is Ben, a ne'er-do-well prospector who seldom has any money or much ambition, but he has a youthful charm that appeals to Slim and to Martha Ward fCharlotte Steenl the pretty, young reaturant owner across the way. i Martha, too, is forced to spend the night in Slim's hotel. Soon there are other patrons: CaptainlLowell Cartwright fJim Call! apparently on a secret missiong then there is Elmira Mabee fMerri Barberl a timid little maiden lad , who seems curious about Slim, Josiah Tuttle !Larry CaucuttY a professorish little man who has a very convenient tendenc toward absent-mindednessg Captain Leroy Cartwright CBob Johnson? has the same name and in- itials and same military rank as Lowel' Cartwright, but the two are unrelated and unknown to each other. Lulu Hugger fMargaret Yarnallb Slim suspects, is a woman frot a matrimonial agencyg then there is Pedro CBi1l Myersj a Mexlycan who works for Slim. Money is flowing into the till for Slim but he is uneasy. Recent crack-ups for planes in Utah and the fact that a big army bomber is due to go over the beacon tonight, have made Slim ex- tremely apprehensive for the safety of his beacon. Martha, too, has a strange premonition that somethi g is about to happen. And it does. The beacon is smashed! The curtain comes down as Ben solves the mystery. Lulu is the villian and is led off for the punishment that she deserves. Ehnira is the lady from the matrimonial agency and Slim is in fro it, tho he surely enjoys it. l ' ', 7 nas - Mexeezh. Bob had a fine hook shot with either hand and a terrific jump shot, his team play was also fine for he passed off to either Thomely and Fitch whenever it was-possible to draw the defense to him. Bob was elected captain and did a fine job of guiding the team. I Alvin Johnson was the smallest member of the team, butiye can all say that he.had more than enough spirit for ten twice his size. A1 sacrificed personal scoring glory for team play and did a wonderful job. ' ' Ronnie Anderson was a very fine guard an both defense and offense. Ron was responsible for a great deal of the feeding done so the front line could score, he was a mighty fine shot himself. Ronn1e's determination to do well helped the team to, gain a sectional berth at Menomonie. we will miss him, for fine guards are a scarce item. A Ronnie Thomely was the teams best all around player, he did a fine job of ball handing, rebounding and helped a great deal with his fine scoring. The team missed Ron in the sectional meet at Menomonie, because of the sprained ankle he received in the district play-off. Ronnie is a fine college prospect. , Al Gunem was a reservegforward and guard. Al could beg counted upon in doing a fine job in relieving the first five, his speed and elusiveness made him a threat at all times. Charles Jacobson played reserve forward and center. Chuck J played an aggressive game of basketball, his spirit and ,I determination made him a valued reserve. P 41 INDIVIDUAL SENIGRS Ronnie Anderson was one of the stalwarts in the offensive and defensive platoons. Ronnie played a hard and aggressive game at his tackle post, causing manyiopponents a great deal of trouble when they tried to run over his position. Ronnie leaves a big pair of shoes to be filled by next years football squad. Gail Christ was not a regular, but when he was called upon to fill in at end, did a very fine job. Gail worked hard to strengthen this year's football team by his rugged play in inter squad scrimmares. Douglas DeGrasse played a mighty a halfback position. He was one of tg gainers with his elusiveness in runni est value to this years squad was his nents were able to complete a pass in fine game of football from e squads leading ground q the ends, but his great- play at safety. No oppo- his territory. N albert Gunem was a fine hard charging guard who earned a starting position on thejfirst eleven, only to break his arm in the first dame at BlackpRiver Falls, The team missed his ag- gressiveness and the football squad of next year will miss his spirit. Charles Jacobson played a terrific game of football from his fullback post. Chuck was a back who loved contact and when there was short yardage to be made through the middle, he covld be counted upon to make it. Chuck played a fine defensive end on the defensive platoon and was elected captain for his fine team play. ' i A Howard Kittleson was the smalles man in the line, but what he lacked in size he made up for in heart and spirit. Howie was a fine offensive guard and did a beautiful job in opening the holes for the backs. Donald Stewart was the speed in he back-field and in the last ballgame of the vear opened up t show everyone how fast he really was. Don set a record of 10h Wards in running back an interceptpd pass against Whitehall, He also added 209 more yards to that from the line of scrimmage to be the outstanding player on the field that night. We will all miss Don's speed and determination next year. Marcel Thoma was a tackle and codld always be counted upon to do his best at all tunes. Marcel was not large for a tackle but made up his lack of size by being aggressive and quick. He loved to catch the opponent runners in their backfield and accomplished it many times. 42 Ronald Thomely developed into one of the finest offensive ends in the conference, his pass snaring was one of the main reasons of why our ground game worked as well as it did. will be sorely missed by the next years squad for he was team member and hard worker. John Hagen was another Senior who had hard luck, he the season as first string center. In the first game of season at Black River Falls, he tore the cartlige in his and was out for the season. The team missed him very much for the remainder of the season. JL . n CLASS SONG Tune: Halls of Ivy Oh! we loves the Halls of Osseo That surround us here today And we will not forget tho' we be far far away. To the ha1low'd Halls of Osseo Every voice will bid farewell, And skimmer off in twilight Like the old vesper bell. - One day a hush will fall, The footsteps of us all Will echo down the hall and disappearg But, as we sadly start our journeys far apart A part of every heart will linger here. In the sacred Halls of Osseo Where we lived and learned to know, That thru the years we'll see you in the sweet after glow. H 1 - w. . Z- - i . M5349 'Iii7???rv'55i'1Ef?!:.i1 H .
