Especially were they thrilled by the song of the Lark in the forest. As they made their way here and there through the WV00ds, they were truly inspired by the happy Robbins, but it wasn't Allgood 'cause a Hawk swooped down, frightening the Life out of the little songbirds. Then they came upon 3. Wolfe and Betty became so frightened that she used her Hanke. However, they were not cowardly and consequently did not Shirk from their mission, but Holden each others hands, by just 11 few Knox, they bade the WV0lfe goodbye. As he Sandertedi along, Ferris Seibert called out, How about some Eaton'. So they sat down in a Rowe and partook of Plumfsl and Graham crackers, topped by Reed's ice cream. Now, very thirsty, they crossed some Bridges and found themselves in the open, in fact, just back of an Alfllcorn country home: made their way down a Barnhill, when a Hunter directed them to some Wells where their thirst was satisfied. After being thus refreshed, the trip was Caldwell by all and though they were not so good W'alkerfsl as earlier, they Hobhtledl back home to rest up for their evening Sparks. Looking over the Freshmen, we think that they have everything that it takes to make a hit, and we are sure that in three more years they will be leading the parade. So, we have decided to liken some of the characteristics of music unto the character- isitcs of our O. H. S. Freshmen. Flat-The upper classmen thought all the freshmen to be a bit flat when they entered O. H. S. but they have sharpened up amazingly. Sharp-Phil Bayless's sharp wits make him the source of humor for the fresh- men class. Tempo-Frankie Provozano sets the tempo for talkativeness which seems to be a general characteristic of the whole freshmen class. Smoothness-Joyce Shrago is smooth enough to make all the freshmen hearts turn over. Liveliness-Virginia Perry has the necessary quality of liveliness and ambition. Sweetness-Ann Thomas wins many admirers by this asset. Treble-All the freshmen were trefmbbling on their first day at O. H. S. Loud-The loud voices of the freshmen have enabled them to win some of the yell contests from the Seniors who had won them for the past three years. Major-Janet Ziemer will no doubt soon be one of the drum majorlettesl of the O. H. S. marching band. Scale-Chuck Barnhouse tops the scale of the class with his natural musical ability. fzyay UQ' First Row: Wilma Hatfield, Ruby McFall, Betty Knox, Mae McLandsboroughg Sr-cond Row: Louise Moffet, Esther Cameron, Mary Rose Ott, Alice Johnson, Winifred Nidiver, Mary Masters, Betty Dales, Maxine Walker, Mavis Keoppel. Senior Plays F Y -.. ---. , THE PASSING OF THE THIRD FLOOR In the life of every age can be found a satyr. a coward, a bully, a shrew, a hussy, a rogue, a cad, a cat, a snob, a slut, and a cheat. These were all found in the New York boarding house presided over by Mrs. Sharpe. Only two of the characters really had a clear outlook on life, and then a stranger comes along. This was a serious fantasy drama, calling for strong character portrayal, while humor and pathos relieve each other. BACK Director ............ ......... M rs. H. S. auditorium. The play centered around Tish a middle aged Spinster, blunt and outspoken but cntirely lovable and hr-r two boon companions. During the course of the play, Tish succeeded in getting everybody around her in and out of more jams than can be imagined and there was great suspense and excitement until the final curtain. MUSIC DEPARTMENT Mrs. Olga Hoffman, in her two years in the O. H. S. vocal department, has come into the hearts of all our students through her graciousness and cooperation. As a director she has developed a feeling of good will in her groups along with the technical knowledge she gives, as an individual she has become known for her charm- ing programs she has offered in the assembly on so many occasions. Three cheers for a grand person and a grand department. The O. H. S. Band and band groups are among our most highly prized possessions. Under the direction of Ivan D. Kennedy, we have enjoyed the music of these organiza- tions in our assemblies, in local parades, in contests, in special concerts, and at athletic events. May the coming years bring with them continued successes for the band and to its director, who has worked so faithfully to make it the success that it is. Mr. Carl Woodford, director of the O. H. S. Orchestra, has again this year proven his ability to bring our orchestra to greater heights of success. The orchestra and its small groups participated in a great many school activities and gave to the public the pleasure of three fine concerts. Mr. Woodford's musical talent andl ability are reflected in his splendid groups. .,........-- -.LBEYQL .age ,.., -, ., Instrumental Department FW Y?'7 Ti -'lv' 1' l- v' W Y I ' ' ' ' fx 6 6 5 ' Q xx 1 v Band-Division I Rating' Pride of Oskaloosa High School!
