Student Council just wouldn't have been the same without Gary there to help out on all the committees. He was really active in many clubs and organizations, he was a junior class officer, and he is a member of O'Neil. Gary names kumquats as his favor- ite food and says loafing is his favorite pastime, although he doesn't get to do much of it. He plans to go to college and become an accountant. CAROL HOLMES A little wit, a little fun. she has a smile for everyone. You might call Carol the girl with the Ipana smile. Without it, I doubt if one would recognize her. She was elected sec- retary of the senior class and the May Queen's Maid of Honor. She was active in Student Council, was chosen class speaker, and got loads of other honors. Carol was really a worker . Her hobby and favorite pastime is swimming. Her favorite food, she guesses , is butter pecan ice cream. She'd like to go to college and maybe become an elementary school teacher. f 605507 STEVEN RADKE Steve Full of fun, big and tall, winning laurels in basleetballf' Although Steve is best known for bas- ketball, he also won letters in football and baseball. Though he won't admit it, he's a pretty intelligent guy, as is evident by his membership in O'Neil, and his marks are always right up there. He goes along with some other basketball players and says that his favorite food is oranges. He also drinks a lot of pop and spends what spare time he has watching T.V. He's not sure which college he'll be going to, but he says held like to study accounting. MARGARET WITTE Maggie Full of pep, free from care, there's fun on board-she's there! Maggie is pretty talented when it comes to music - she sings, plays the piano, and plays in the orchestra. In addition, she is very active in many phases of school life. Scholastically, she is one of the best and. of course, is a member of O'Neil. As you'd expect, her hobby is music and her favorite relaxation is playing the piano. Her favor- ite food is schaum torte. She's not just sure what she wants to do for a living, but is torn between being a librarian and a music teacher. A MARY KONRAD lt's nice to be natural when y0u're naturally nice. Editor of the NOTEBOOK, delegate to Badger Girls' State, leader in many school activities, Mary rates as one of the out- standing seniors. Also, her membership in O'Neil and her honor roll marks all through the years show that scholastically she was anything but a loafer . Mary doesn't have one particular hobby but likes to take pic- tures, read, and watch T.V. Her favorite food is dumplings, the kind you find in soup. She plans to be either a teacher or an occupational therapist. HARRY MEYER The best .success we can wish him is that his future may be as brilliant as his past. Although Harry didn't get an Oscar , we certainly feel that he deserved one for his outstanding work in Twilight Walk and as the narrator on the school's first record, You Were There . An active mem- ber of Masque Club, he also had a leading role in Glamor Boy . Harry took part in many other activities besides being manager of the football, basketball, and track teams. He was chosen class speaker, elected to O'Neil, and went to Badger Boys' State. He just doesn't have any favorite food - he eats, and sports take up his spare time. His ambition is law and he wants to be a cor- poration lawyer. l lf 9 SUSAN STRATZ Sue The harder I try the gooder to he, the worser I am. Although Sue has participated in a lot of activities. the biggest thrill of her life came when she was elected Homecoming Queen. Whenever you see Sue, she's grin- ning because she always has to laugh. She spends a good share of her outside time in sports. Her favorite food is meat- especially steak. She wants to become a Navy nurse some day. law JEAN FOGTMAN Putsy Shes a singer, athlete, and cheer- leader, too. ls there anything that Puts can't do? It would be hard not to know who Putsy is, especially since, for the last two years, she has led the cheers at all the pep meetings and games, But no one who was in the Rec. gym the night of April 50 will forget her entrance as Queen of the May. Sports is one of -Iean's big hobbies, but, since she is a member of O'Neil, she must spend some time studying! Her favorite food is, as she puts it, anything edible . JAMES FUHS jim In the firmament of school activi- ties, he shines as one of the brighter stars. Being president of the Student Council is a big job, but jim handled it well. He's well known to all of us as the lad who introduced the assembly speakers. jim's been active in many other ways and he's a member of O'Neil. He was the man be- hind the catcher's mask on the baseball team and really helped win those games. He's not just sure what his hobby is, but he lists pineapple up-side-down cake as his favorite food. He wants to study pharmacy. 3350 ROGER PENZENSTADLER Pens I'd rather hug a hasleethall than anything else - well, almost anything else! Besides being a terriffic basketball play- er, Rog is a pretty outstanding guy all the way around. He can write, as you kl10W, If you read STUDENT PRINTS or the sports columns of the INDEX. And, of course. he was senior class president and really made us proud of him. As you may have guessed, Rog's hobby is sports. He likes to eat ham- burgers when he makes them himself. He says he wants to become a coach or a Phy. Ed. teacher. MARY WAGNER Generally speaking, Mary is - generally speaking. Student Council, O'Neil, club activities, and Youth Council take up about all the spare time Mary has. She likes to make friends and enjoyed going to Badger Girls' State as well as state and national Student Council and Youth Council conventions. Her favorite food is the apple strudel her mother makes, but she informs us that she likes to cook and make fancy desserts. She wants to go into nursing and thinks she might he a psychiatric nurse. JOHN HOUGH jack ll 'hate're he touches his pen to, turns into a work of art. fi. ES' jack really knows how to sling those words around. He was editor of both the INDEX and STUDENT PRINTS and is a versatile writer. Extra-curricular activities took up a lot of his time. He was president of the Youth Council. a big job. and a member of O'Neil. Jack's favorite food is steak which he'd just as soon have three times a day. Among his hobbies, sports ranks very high. He loves to argue and is interested in politics - all of which ex- plains his ambition, to study law. 1 1 M ,Sign ... 526 mx Jw . Phrases like these are tucked away in the book of memories and along with them, should go a few comments about the 1953 football season at O.H.S. The overall record of wins and losses was one-half game better, by virtue of a tie with Sheboygan Central, than the 1952 season. However, the entire story can't be read by just looking at the records of a team. This year Oshkosh opened its season against the ever- powerful Marinette Mariners. Lacking confidence and game experience, the Indians were forced to bow to the Marines by the score of 21-0. The next game, with Appleton, was rated as just about a toss-up by everyone. However, the sportsman's old nemesis, lack of confidence, wasn't reckoned with and as a result Oshkosh was tripped up within the first two minutes of play 7-0. The following week the Indians went north to seek a win at the expense of Green Bay East. This wasn't the week, though, as Oshkosh was defeated, 29-7. The next week was the week , however, and the Indians took full advantage of it to annex their first win at the ex- pense of Sheboygan North, 14-0. The following game was played at Manitowoc under the most weird physical conditions possible. During the entire contest, the field was covered with a thick blanket of fog. The players drifted in and out of sight like phantoms in a dream. At times visibility was reduced to about twenty yards. And to top off the queer night, Oshkosh lost as a result of a blocked point-after-touchdown, 7-6. The next week was Homecoming, and the opposition was the terror of the Fox River Valleyu, Green Bay West. Al- though the fans wern't treated to a win, they did see some excellent football played by both teams, contrary to the linal score which was 49-0, Green Bay West. The following game provided the margin of improvement in the won and lost JUNIOR VARSITY Neitzel, Richter, Vesperman, Coe, Hable, Dittloff, Suda, ' 'l homas, Beck, Kuhnz Holland, Krueger, LeMay, Madden, Davis, Nitkowski, Hughes, Kroening, Boyd, LaPoinr, Dempsey Ludwig, Witherbee, Naslund, Hedtke, Lyon, Steinbrecker, Bathke, Christiansen, Bowen, Parker Nord, Barnard, Holland, Sawall, Albee, Bartel, Himmler, Schloesser, Radkey, Ehlers 4 4. In a Saturday afternoon game, played in a very cold wind at Sheboygan Central, the Indians tied the Redmen, 0-0. The traditional season windup was held at Fond du Lac this year, and the team bowed out in grand style, play- ing their best game of the year. However, the best wasn't quite good enough and the Indians rang down the curtain to the tune of a 21-24 defeat. As the old proverb says, tomorrow's another day , and 1954 is another year so we'll all look forward to it with hopes of a much better football season. M gl.- L CONF-'E s ,. Take for ex- ample that double overtime win from Manitowoc. and those two stirring victories over the perennially potent Sheboygan Central Redmen. just looking at the record though, 1954 doesn't ap- pear as too spectacular a season as far as the Indians were concerned. They compiled a won and lost record of eight and six in conference play, all six losses coming in the second half of the season by a total of less than twenty points. However, the fellows showed that they had what it takes to make a champion when the W.I.A.A. tournament came along. In tournament play the Indians knocked off the teams rated number one and three in the state-Waukesha and Kimberly. This was in addition to gaining that revenge that is so sweet by defeating Green Bay East in a very oddly played game. The only team to defeat the Indians along the tourney trail was the ultimate state champs - Stevens Point. Yes, it was a great season accomplished by a great bunch of guys. 'ak , 'fa 8 1 1 E ? i , V' f we .,w.,fef., R., t r'-may TRACK The 1953 track season was another of those years . . . the team won the laurel wreath on only one occasion. However, the fellows worked hard and for several it paid off in a trip to the state meet at Madison. 1954 seems to have started where 1953 left off. In the first three meets, the thinclads have annexed only one win, that coming over Ripon. However, several fellows have done outstanding work and are a cinch to reach the state finals. TENNIS l: Steiger, Harrington, Davis, Krueger 2: Haebig, Privoznik, Gehrke, Wheeler, Timm, Reed, Hough w P N, BASEBALL 1953 was a year to be proud of as far as baseball at O.H.S. was concerned for the Indians finished the season in a tie for first place with Manitowoc. Weather has played havoc with the schedule so far this season and the batsmen have only four games under their belts. In one double-header they knocked off Manitowoc twice, and they split the other twin bill with Sheboygan Central. Most of the regulars have one or more years of experience behind them so, if they get a break from the weatherman, the team should wind up very near the top of the heap. TENNIS It was about a fifty-fifty season for the O.H.S. racquet men in '55. In the Confer- ence meet Oshkosh finished fifth - only one-half point out of third place. It might be called a hard luck season since several matches were lost by a margin of only a few points. Thus far in '54 the boys have dopped a match to Ripon and have won one from Sheboygan North. 'tk sf, x..r BASEBALL - VARSITY Miller, Swanson, Parker, Peppler, Gauger, Tyriver, Berrell, Radke, Fuhs Kintopf Bouras, Teteak, Price, Thomas, Koplitz Putzer, Manthei, Kaufman, Hawley, Clark, Hoeft, Quandt GOLF The year 1953 was very successful as far as our linksmen were concerned. They won six dual matches while dropping only one. In triangular and quadrangular play they copped one first place and two seconds. To date, the Indians have dropped three matches - Green Bay Catholic Central, Manitowoc, and Fond du Lac fby only one pointj. On the other hand, they have won from Green Bay West and Waupaca. Coach Nord feels that the team is coming right along and by state meet time the drive and putt men should be able to give a good account of themselves.
