THE PLAYER OF THE SEASON The grid team of '49 was one of the most successful and perhaps the most colorful Oshkosh team that ever struggled into football paraphernalia. The season was full of tricks and turns - and maybe luck. In a pre-season prediction, the coaches stated that Green Bay West would be our only sure victory. lShows how pessimistic a coach can be! l Final standings: 6 wins and 1 loss, with West Green Bay our only defeat! We all remember many highlights during the season. For instance: A perfect climax was built up for our homecoming game with Appleton fi-07 when the Indians C4-17 tied them for first place. Remember Herb Tesch's thrill- ing 36 yard field goal that gave us a 17-14 victory. Then the game at Fondy when Oshkosh ruined the Cardinal's homecoming to clinch at least a share of the championship Or the next day when Manitowocs defeat of Appleton left us undisputed champions' The players all stand out in our memories too Certainly Ken Rhode who led the Conference in scoring 1m Thomas famous end around play those seventeen consecutive extra point kicks by Herb Tesch Yes a special handshake toevery player We will always remember OUR CHAMPS' CHEERLEADERS Draper Eagen Steier Felker Gibson Bahr THE BOSSES Bruins Schumerth Schultz Hall CMT? 0 THE YEAR jick Retzlaff Page Tu enly eight ' 'g .... ji v ' - . . . .
