Ewing On dn 'Up Beat A Music holds a special place for Alan Atkins, Assistant Drum Major. He became involved with the band the summer before his freshman year. He worked steadily until he achieved the position of percussion section leader. During Alan's Junior year he was honored with the title, Outstanding Band Student. Alan enjoys listening to several famous percussionists such as Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa of the Big Band era, and Neil Peart of the rock band, Rush. During his first year in the music program, Alan decided to make be- coming drum major one of his goals.
