Society: NEW and QLD By Heather Brannon Social Studies is probably one of the most important classes a student will ever take. He may ask himself, f'Why am I taking this class'?', Do I really need it'? . Perhaps he may not need Calculus, or chemistry, but So- cial Studies is definitely a priority in his education. 9th grade: He is a freshman. Upon entering his classroom, he is handed an American Government book. For the rest of the semester, he will learn about how our government works, and his part in it. If he was placed in E.L.P., second semester he will take economics. He will then proceed to learn about American and foreign currency, types of economic systems, Mrs. Millichamp explains the upcoming Middle Ages project to her Adv. World History class. and what the role of the consumer is in these economics. 10th Grade: The student is now a sophomore. On the first day of school, he will encounter an intro- duction to his World History class. Starting in September and ending in May, he will encounter an introduc- tion of prehistoric man, ending with present day society. llth Grade: Doors are beginning to open for this student. Although he is required to take American Histo- ry, he has many other choices for electives. He may choose from Psy- chology I 8a II, Sociology, and the Humanities. These classes will en- rich him in understanding himself, understanding others, and under- standing people in history. 12th Grade: This student is now entering his last year of public edu- cation. Most likely, he will take one semester of Economics. He can choose any of the courses offered his junior year, and he may also take Law Studies, if he so desires. By the time a student graduates, he will know about our American Government and History, World History, Economics, and the role it plays in our country. This informa- tion will be of great help throughout the studentls life. Matthew Post proudly displays his handmade project: a replica model of Notre Dame de Paris, a very famous Gothic church located on the Ill de cite. Its fame comes from its pointed arches and flying buttresses, which are recognized so well. During the period of Gothic style building, Frenchmen built 60 churches, one being Notre Dame de Paris. flbumffgg Chris Sanders poses behind his project: A medieval manor. 200!Social Studies '22 Waiting to be served her meal, Michelle Thomas reads a little bit about its histo- ry.
