On the Flight Track By Stacey Worcester Drivers Ed prepared students for driving on the road. It taught them defensive driving skills and gave hours of driving experience. It not only taught the student, but depending on the insurance com- pany, some got l0'Zn off their in- surance rates. At the end of the class, if students passed the skill and written tests, they received a waiver. Once issued a waiver, it was taken to the Driver Licenses office. Most of the time students just handed the DMV examiner the waiver and they were issued a licenseg occasionally they did re- test. To take this course students needed a restricted license. Coach Saari said that although he's nervous, getting into a car with an inexperienced driver, he generally knows what to expect, after teaching the course for sev- en years. Although most of the students arenit very experienced, the worst experience they've had while driving was when an old man turned unexpectedly in front of them and caused a collision. The car was still driveable after the accident, and no one was hurt. All of the students must have two years of Gym to obtain their diploma. Personal Fitness, Team Sports, Individual Dual Sports, Recreational Activities and Weight Lifting were the offered courses. xx Steve Liss practices his newly acquired Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation skills on Annie.
