Formula For' Sur: By Erika Harvey Mathematics was a fact of life for practically every student dur- ing four years of high school. Courses ranged from the practi- cal Consumer Math to the highly advanced analytical skills re- quired in Geometry, Algebra and Calculus. The Math Department strove to teach every student the skills that would enhance his or her future. This year was the first year that Osceola offered the prepara- tory course for the Scholastic Ap- titude Test CSATJ. The course was offered for seven weeks. Stu- dents spent two hours after school in hopes of raising their math scores and improving their chances for getting into a good college. The Math Department also sponsored Mu Alpha Theta. Mrs. Hannigan was in charge of this group of math lovers. Students in the club had several opportunities over the year to hear guest speak- ers from mathematical fields. Miss Crane, head of the De- partment said, We have put forth a united effort to teach the students what they really need to learn. 1 881 M athematics
